October 9, 2006 - After a year of wishlists, speculation and even a bit of "slipped" information, RedOctane has finally revealed to us the final licensed tracklist for Guitar Hero II. Totaling 40 tunes in all, spread over eight difficulty levels, the sequel to our Best Music Game of 2005 seems to have an even wider range of rock-oriented music than the first time out. From Guns N\' Roses to the Police to Dick Dale, Guitar Hero II runs the gamut of rock.

Without further ado, here are the tracks you\'ll be rocking out to come November 7th.

1. Opening Licks
Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
Danzig - Mother
Cheap Trick - Surrender
Wolfmother - Woman
Spinal Tap - Tonight I\'m Gonna Rock You Tonight

2. Amp-Warmers

Kansas - Carry on Wayward Son

3. String-Snappers

Guns N\' Roses - Sweet Child O\' Mine

5. Return of the Shred
Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name Of
Primus - John the Fisherman
Sword - Freya
Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation
Aerosmtih - Last Child

6. Relentless Riffs

Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized
Dick Dale - Misirlou
Megadeth - Hangar 18
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird

As for the unlockable bonus tracks, RedOctane tells us that it wants to keep those songs a secret until release as to not spoil everything for the fans. Sounds good to us, though we\'re certainly interested to know simply what caliber of tracks will be included. Good things come to those who wait however, and luckily we have less than a month to do so.

um, I\'m confused after watching that. I\'ve never seen this game. Do you actually plug a guitar into it, or is it some cheesy plastic guitar that comes with the game? Are you actually playing the songs, or just trying to imitate the lights on the bottom of the screen?

here\'s the default guitar:

the 5 colored buttons on the fret board correspond with the colors at the bottom of the screen. there is a \'pick\' for your right (well, YOUR left) hand that moves up and down. there\'s also a working whammy bar:

to get an idea of what\'s going on on the guitar, here\'s a video of Cowboys From Hell (Pantera) from Guitar Hero in Expert Mode. it\'s one of the hardest songs on the first one, and this dude owns it. there\'s hammer ons and pull offs and all kinds of **** in there:

what you should do is come over and play it one day.. you\'ll be hooked.. guarantee it..

That game is pretty fun..... but mostly because of the cool graphics and flashing lights and pretty colors.

For some reason playing those songs on a real guitar is a lot easier than that weird keytar-style thing they give ya. The built in whammy bar is pretty cool though.

agreed (though i don\'t play guitar), but that\'s the point.. if you wanna play the songs on guitar, pick up a guitar.. but this is a video game, and a damn cool one at that!

Yeah its pretty fun, especially when you fall behind and miss 40 notes in a row and the crowd gets pissed off :D

It would be cool if there was a vaster library of songs to play though, that was my only complaint w. the first one. Never played Guitar Hero 2 though.

They should put Puppetry on guitar hero 3..... that **** would be impossible towards the end of the song hehehehe

that\'s why i can\'t wait for the new one to come out.. but i think it\'s pretty good for the first installment of the game - 30 songs to start off with, plus 17 bonus songs.. factor in that you\'re gonna be trying to master all the songs on every difficulty level.. GH2 is gonna be great. love the tracklist, and can\'t wait to play a lot of the songs..

i hope they continue with this series for a long time..

Yea, I kinda agree with bdfreetuna that I\'d rather just play the song on a guitar, but it would still be pretty cool to check out. Too bad there isn\'t a bass version. YYZ on bass is MUCH more difficult than it is on guitar. One thing you have to give geddy, even if you don\'t like his voice, the boy can play. His fill work in yyz are among the best 1-2 bar bass fills I\'ve ever heard. The guitar solo is pretty easy and very beautiful -  very eastern sounding. Lots of hammeron/pulloffs using open strings. The last bar is a really fun HO/PO line to play, all on the B string:

Code: [Select]
[bass fill #1]
s s s  s  s s  e  q  q
|-5/7----11-9----12-12-14\\|
|----/10------11----12-14\\|
|-------------------------|
|-------------------------|

[bass fill 2]
s s s  E  s  e  e    e  e  s^ s^ s^ E E e e
7-9/12-11------/16-|-14-12-11-12-11-9\\5-4---|
----------14-12----|------------------5-4---
-------------------|----------------------7\\|
-------------------|------------------------|

[YYZ Guitar Solo last bar]
e:---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B:-0h10h12p10p0h10h12p10p0h8h10p8p0h8h10p8p0h7h8p7p0h5h7p5p0h4h5p4p0h1h4p1p0-|
G:---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D:---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A:---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E:---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

If you\'re feeling really brasen, heres the whole song on guitar or on bass. Make sure you\'re counting the intro evenly. It\'s morris code for YYZ, which are the international call letters for the toronto air port.

Guitar Hero was the headlining article of yesterday\'s Wall Street Journal.

Mentioned how famous musicians love it and are challenged by the game\'s complexity.

The rhythm-action specialists who brought us Frequency, Amplitude, Karaoke Revolution and, of course, the Guitar Hero games won\'t be developing the next Guitar Hero, GameDaily BIZ has learned. Instead of Harmonix, it would appear that Tony Hawk developer Neversoft now has that honor...

While rumors (stemming from EGM) circulated last week regarding a possible \'80s edition of Guitar Hero, an anonymous industry source tipped off GameDaily BIZ that development on the next Guitar Hero may be switching hands from Harmonix to Neversoft, known primarily for its Tony Hawk games.

When contacted for comment last week, Neversoft president Joel Jewett did not return our calls, while publisher RedOctane/Activision issued us the standard response that they "do not comment on rumor." Now, however, there\'s no denying it. The Neversoft website is literally split down the middle between Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk\'s Project 8, as Neversoft is apparently hiring for both franchises currently. (If for some reason the site is not working or has been changed, check out the screen grab below as evidence.)

Clicking on "Positions Available" for either game takes you to the same hiring/job listings page, and none of the positions explicitly mentions anything about Guitar Hero. And while details are scant at the moment, our source did indicate to us that the positions being filled are for Guitar Hero III.

Neversoft is undoubetdly filled with much talent, but we\'re not quite sure why RedOctane would give the development duties to them after Harmonix created two hugely successful games. Guitar Hero II really cranked it up to 11 with sales of more than 805 K units in December alone in the U.S. In fact, according to recent NPD data, the game was the fifth best selling game for all of 2006 with 1.3 million units sold in the U.S.

We hope to bring you more on this developing story very soon. Stay tuned!
