i\'ve read a couple of not-so-favorable reviews of this album. but i may need to ignore the critics and get it anyway... just to hear willie do "sitting in limbo".
Said it earlier, like it or not, good or bad, it is worth listening too.
There is a good article about this album in last issue of Relix. They interviewed Willie about it and he said that the album got started about 10 or more years ago. He said it was an idea that Chris Blackwell (I think his name is) the former head of Island Records (who signed willie to that label).
He basically says how he would work on it and then something would come up and it would get shelved on and on. So then Chris Blackwell (if that is his name) left Island and then the project got scrapped. Then I guess someone in Willies camp made a deal to get the Masters form Island or whatever and they finally got it out.
It is funny because in the article Willie says that the albums release had been pushed back so many times and that all sorts of stuff have postponed it that he wouldn\'t believe it was out until he saw it with his own eyes or people start askinghim to sign it.
i just downloaded it because it sounded interesting.
its very rough and incomplete and very poorly mixed. they could have done a lot more with the vocals to make them suit the songs better, they vary throughout the album. they dont sound too bad on some tracks, but for the most part it sounds like willie singing karaoke over a generic karaoke reggae disc. i think it could have been pretty good if more time was spent on it to mix it more. by the way it sounds you would think the budget for this album was about $500.
I heard one of the songs on a heady local independent radio station the other day, and the first thing that came out of my mouth was "WTF..is that Willie?" Not too big of a fan...
