I am wondering if the **** Brew Sessions are famous because they set the foundation for the fusion movement or if they are particularly good musical scores.

:P

miles wasnt using scores at this point. Its pretty much just jams. They are famous because it was so different, and was later recognised as an early fusion album.

go listen to on the corner.

This is a quote from page 365 of A Long Strange Trip by Dennis McNally

"In the middle of April they [The Grateful Dead] played a weekend at the Filllmore West that would be memorable for a feeling of utter silliness induced by following their opening act. Going on after hearing Miles Davis and the **** Brew band was, as Garcia put it, "ridiculous." "I don\'t ever want to hear anyone snivel about following anyone," said Lesh. "Because I got the one man, right there. Made me feel so dumb. I thought, \'What the **** am I doing here, why aren\'t I at home digesting what I just heard?\' "

It is a great book. I finished it this morning riding the subway to work. As the text reached the summer of 1995 I almost broke into tears. It took some effort to keep it together while riding the train.

No sit-in. Miles and Jerry talk about discussing music but never mention playing together in any format.
I highly recommend reading: Miles, the Autobiography by Miles Davis and Quincy Troupe. Here is a great quote from Miles concerning the shows he played with Steve Miller before he played with the Dead. He "didn\'t have **** going for him, so I\'m pissed because I got to open for this non-playing motherfucker just because he had one or two sorry-ass records out. So I would come late and he would have to go on first, and then when we got there, we just smoked the motherfucking place and everybody dug it, including Bill [Graham]!"

Yeah that autobiography is a fantastic book. I love him talking about cab rides with Bird... and punching Bird, lol. And punching Coltrane. yikes.

Amazing how a man who changed the face of music MULTIPLE times could have been such an ****!
