Need the board\'s opinion please:

(Assuming I am unsuccessful with the Red Rocks onsale.)

Should I attempt to trade the complete set of \'03 Hampton Pollocks for a 4-day pass?

Fast facts:
-All posters are framed and mint. I bought them myself and am the only owner.
-Very good numbers:
1/2/03 #85/750
1/3/03 #256/750
1/4/03 #302/750
-The last time I saw this complete set on Ebay, I believe it sold in the $600 range.
-4-day passes are going for about $1,400 on EBay.
-I paid $50 each for the posters, $150 total.

Should I attempt this trade????

Also, I\'d have to trade either with a local friend or maybe a local friend of a friend.

I was thinking craigslist or something, but consider the hellacious logistics of executing the trade, assuming the trade is not with a local friend. There is no way to consummate this trade through the mail without seriously researching and paying a reputable escrow service.  The only way to do it is in person, which would likely be quite problematic for two people living in Boston and, say, Denver.  Furthermore, even if an in-person trade were possible, I would feel a lot better if I could bring the two biggest dudes I know as backup.

f the posters, get yourself to the show. posters will only hold value for so long a peroid which will fluxuate depending on how good the show was and if they are touring at the time of the sale. Those are going for $600 now, but a year or 2 from now they\'ll probably drop again. get the good money now while they are in demand.

Did you buy these as an investment?  If so, this would be selling high.

If you bought them to look at and hang on the wall, take & enlarge some nice pics @ Red Rocks to hang in their place.  Material things can never be more valuable than an experience.

Seriously- who would even consider being on the other end of this?

yea, I\'m still sitting on a bunch of pj 03 and 04 tour posters. I also have the phish 2000 hartford poster which I\'ll probably put up this summer. Now that they are playing there again this will be the high value time for a sale on it. After all, you only have so much wall space.

I think they are ticketmaster numbers in other states...For instance Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, etc...Numbers that might have less traffic.  I know this used to work, but now a days I think you still get routed to the same place regardless of where you call.

All good points.  It\'s interesting that the board is split so far.  I think there\'s definitely a lot of people who would consider this trade, assuming I can find them and meet up with them.  I think there are a decent number of Phish fans out there who are staunchly opposed to straight up selling tickets for profit, but will entertain offers for major-league trades, which is what this is.  I think the real cash value of the posters isn\'t widely known since I haven\'t seen any of them on EBay in a long time.  I honestly don\'t know if I bought them as an investment or as decorations but there\'s no doubt this would be good dollar value on the investment and I can always get other decorations.

wolf - depends on if you\'ve been to red rocks or not. if you haven\'t, trade the posters if you can. you won\'t want to miss it.

if you\'ve been to red rocks, then you know how cool it is. trade the posters and go.

i guess that states my opinion.
i think it\'s turning back on me / i\'m down on the upside

I used to collect prints when I was just out of college and had tons of cash since I was living at home for a year. Anyways, here is where I go to gauge their value.

http://www.expressobeans.com

Here is a link to the Hampton Pollock prints (3):

http://www.expressobeans.com/public/detail.php/110

Average Price: $952.66

Your prints are framed too, so that adds value as well.

It all comes down to how much you value a 4 night run at one of the most infamous venues in the US. While having 3 framed prints on your wall will be something you can enjoy every time you are in that room, a 4 night run at Red Rocks will be an experience that you\'ll never forget. If you are able to keep your travel costs and accommodations to a minimum you won\'t really have to invest much out of pocket.
Smell my mule.
