I heard an interesting description of how dreams work and why they often seem so crazy. If you picture your mind as a pie cut into segments, each segment representing a different function of the mind (ie memories, desires, etc.). In the center of the pie is a spinning flashlight which represents your conciousness. The flashlight is being turned on and off as your mind floats in and out of sleep, so it\'s constantly changing which section of the mind it\'s paying attention to. At one point it\'s viewing the part of the brain that controls memories, the memories that you have of your regular firehouse, memories that you have of mister LSD, at other times it\'s shining on the part of the brain that controls disires, the disire to listen to good music, to be a hospitable friend, etc.
We spent a lot of time in school talking about and analyzing each others dreams. A friend was a Psych major and always came up with the funniest analyisis, he would always twist the dreams to mean that everyone was a closeted homosexual.
