Just read a brief RS article about them. Certain key phrases got me interested, like they\'re working with Flaming Lips producer. But they kinda came off like spoiled Wesleyan rich kids.
Listened to "time to pretend" and thought it was pretty interesting, then "electric feel"... started feeling like the same song in a slightly different wrapper.
Are these kids worth further investigation?

i really enjoy MGMT... but i suppose it\'s important to appreciate them for what they are (ie, pretentious Wesleyan kids)... but Oracular Spectacular is a solid first album, in that it is very young, at times a little raw and repetitive; however, i really enjoy the potential it exhibits.
i do find their songs to be really catchy and unique (Kids is probably my favorite track from their album)... one of the guys from MGMT is also working with Kevin Barnes (Of Montreal) for a release later this year. this fact alone makes them earn my respect and excites me to see what lays ahead.
I think Oracular Spectacular is certainly worth a purchase/download and a few spins. it went into heavy rotation in my collection for a little bit, but didn\'t have really heavy staying power. But the future is promising for this band.... get on board while it\'s still hip chags

:makes fart noises with armpit:
oracular spectacular = ser
they are amazing, everyone who likes them should check out the new single they just released "metanoia" or something like that i might have spelled it wrong, its like 13 min long and sounds like old school floyd, i hear they put on decent live show, and yes the fact that dave friedman is producing for them is amazing, seeing as the lips release some of the best studio albums nowadays
they also have a great interview from bonnaroo where they talk about how they wanted to just play a 50min china cat for the set, but thought it would allienate the fans that came to see them
anyway, check out the album, check out the new single
http://www.mediafire.com/?azibm7ynedei dont know what that link is, but i know for sure it\'s not the album
i believe they are on the cover of the new spin...if you need some more reading amterial on them....ps...love that you are rocking baldwin...
I am currently cleaning up the mess my mind made melting out of my head after listening to Congratulations for the first time through.
A psychedelic aural collage that should be heard.

yes! a great sophomore effort. much better than oracular spectacular (and i really liked that one). less poppy more psychedelic.

It\'s been awhile since an album made me smile and just say wow after that first listen and think that is something pretty special.
I thought that their first album is "Climbing to New Lows" which has 10 tracks. Their band name was slightly different ("The Management") but it\'s the same band. Oracular is #2 and Congratulations is #3. But anyhow, yeah I like them and their set at Bonnaroo last year was a very good show! Is there even a question of "worth investigating" any band? Just investigate. If you end up liking it great, if not, whatever.
I dig. oracular spectacular more synth-pop ish, i dug it hard for a while. congratulations more retro psychedelic or something, am digging now. kinda goofy stuff, which i appreciate, being a goofball myself... Never seen em live, but the live stuff i have seen on youtube and such has not really lived up the albums, imo
worth checking out. Believe I got their discography from Wah.

I\'ve been listening to it frequently since I first heard it in March. Best album of the year thus far but I haven\'t checked out many other new albums. I\'m tempted to see them when they play Oakland in July; perhaps I should check out the Youtube live performances since they haven\'t gotten as much live praise as the studio works.

Def was into oracular spectacular for awhile. And still like it better. Electric Feel was seriously just stuck in my head for months. Even just writing it, I began singing it. I just can\'t get into congratulations all the way yet.
