How the F&%* Did OAR get so big?

So I was flipping through the TV and I see OAR playing in an Arena w/ full production and also just realized a buddy of mine told me last week he was working an OAR show as a stagehand at SDSU\'s Open Air Theatre. It did not occur to me that they were Headliners for that gig. Now seeing this on the TV WTF??

When did this happen?

Is it just a midwest thing where they are huge? Anyone know? This is crazy to me.

A Guy who I used to work with is very into them

They have done several shows at MSG as headliners. Not sure if it was the theatre or the Garden tho.

They do allow open taping I know that. I don\'t think I have ever listened to them tho.

My understanding is the fanbase is very much like dave matthew\'s

they are basically a more pop version of DMB. personally, i cant stand them. when they came out a friend of mine who lived on my dormroom floor bought their cd and would play that **** poker song nonstop. the lyrics about i say ho you say hah or however it goes were so awful i had to leave the room anytime he put their cd on. damn, just talking about them got my blood boiling. its so sad to see bands with no talent make it to such great heights.

Answer:
Great grassroots & internet team
Brilliant Management, Promotion, Booking, etc...
Opened for Dave Matthews
Easily accessible music
Great, personable stage persona

I\'m personally not a fan - I lump them in with Dispatch as a half-assed college band, but, hey, Dispatch sold out MSG 3 nights in a row.  Whatever.

I\'m heading back to CT next week to play some music and make some fat cash.  Hope to see  y\'all out there soon...

Peace,
Ian

Hahaha! We were just talking about them on our ride home from Boston. I couldn\'t believe that they played MSG. And I don\'t think it was just the theater. I don\'t care for them much.

Someone at pool Monday nights plays this **** song every week. I\'m sooooo sick of it. And it goes on for like 17 gawd awful minutes. Repetitive as hell!

my roommate at college freshman year played the poker song nonstop too. I honestly wanted to kill him. "How do people like this stuff?" I thought. It seems everyone has that story with this god-awful song. But hey, god bless em, they never did anything to me. I just think they\'re bad, bad, bad.

They have been playing the Oakdale for a few years now that I remember, think most have been sellouts or close too. Never understood how they got that big so quick.
Love many, trust few and don\'t be late.

Todd,

I have found the ultimate revenge song for anyone who plays long songs like this.

Grateful Dead - Bear\'s Choice - Smokestack Lightnin (almost 18 minutes long)

I used to to this at a Bar in Kingston RI whenever people played long annoying songs too much

i usually go with the help on the way>slipknot!>franklin\'s tower combo when i\'m at a bar that only plays creed\'s "can you take me higher" or other bands of that ilk all night.  it really grinds those meatheads\' gears

It most definitley does.

I can\'t believe I haven\'t thought of this in sooo long but the bar that had Bear\'s Choice in the jukebox also served "Grateful Deads"

Have any of you ever had 1 ?

It is basically a Long Island Iced Tea with a splash of Chambord (sp? currant liquor). So good. 2 of those and you were off
