After previously being critical of STS9, I\'m beginning to change my tune.  The podcasts available on their website are giving me a new perspective and appreciation.  I did see them over the summer and thought they were nothing special/boring.  Maybe it was just an off day?

I\'ve always been on/off with STS9. They creep back in, only to creep back out.

I missed this thread originally. Are you serious with the Chocolate Rain biz? HA!

I guess I gotta\' check out Schpongle, or whatever, never heard of em. I don\'t have any electronica junkies in my physical circle, therefore I must be pro-active when picking up nibs of info here on .info.

Shpongle is good ****. AN excellent example of trance that doesn\'t suck. I have a set with them and Infected Mushroom that is pretty good.

STS9 is fun sometimes, but sometimes is a serious snoozefest.

And of course lets not forget the ser danciness of Tunak Tunak Tun.

id rather see a rock/jam band that can do trance well (The Breakfast, Umphrey\'s Mcgee) any day of the week over an all trance show, like bisco or lotus, or sts9, etc.

I would like to say, in this discussion, even though I have only read the first and last pages, two things:
Well, before I can say anything I need to make a qualifiing statement:
-I don\'t play any instrument, or program music in any way-
Now then;
1.) The statement that electronic, or programmed, music is not or is very hard to be improvisational, to me, sounds like more a critique of the langauge or tool used to produce the music than the music itself.

A second thought; whenever I think of cool new things to do with music, I always seem to think of doing them with computers. Triggers, for example, have been used on drums for decades, has anyone thought of using them with guitars. Feed back loops that are more than feed back loops, but looping over previously recorded notes to simulate multiple guitars, or something, and then the ability to layer all those loops over each other.

My other idea - and this would apeal more to the experimental/noised type audieance, is to mic a hard drive. Make different loses by variying the read/write speeds and the location on the disk at which the data is read. This, then could be modified while being played.

Wow, this post apears to ahve nothing to do with the dicussion at hand, oh well.
