I love MMW, have seen them a bunch of times, am a fan of every album, including the new one, but last night\'s show screamed average. By far, the shortest MMW show I\'ve ever seen and I felt the jamming was basic. No standouts. The setlist was nearly entirely comprised of new songs. No variety. The show started strong, rested for a long while, then got going for about the last 15-20 minutes before they stopped. I thought this was a setbreak, but turned out to be the end of the performance. The encore was five minutes. A disappointing show. Low crowd energy. It just seemed like MMW wasn\'t feeling it.

The past 2 times I have seen them were disappointing, the last one being at the Allgood festival in WV... that one was really a letdown... weekend of bad music, and all weekend I kept saying, "Well, at least I have MMW to look forward to." ugh.

Won\'t you step into the gripper!
Grip her with your gripper!

Headdy reprise right there.

Oh yeah, MMW.  Too short.  Unser.  Average show, one long set/jam.  For some reason their shows seemed so much better 4-6 years ago.  They\'re still good though.  Toad\'s is a bad fit for them.  They need to be in either a real theatre with assigned seats and killer acoustics, or a small jazz club with under 100 people all at tables drinking $10 cocktails.  A rock club with a GA floor and a noisy bar with a TV is not their scene.  Take one listen to Tonic and it\'s pretty clear that music like that cannot be made at Toad\'s Place.  I thought the crowd energy was decent, especially at the end with everyone doing the oleeeeee ole ole ole chant.  I was going to go to Pearl Street to see them tomorrow, but I\'ll take a pass now.  It\'s gonna be the same exact show; noisy rock club, punkass staff, 90 minutes one set.  I\'m used to seeing them play 2 sets at the Calvin from 8-12.  Hopefully they get back to these types of shows.  They still have it, they just need to re-evaluate what kind of places they\'re playing.

You\'re right, the crowd did get going at the end (there was even a brief "we want more" chat after the encore), but that just perplexed me more as to why the music stopped. Even if it was destined to be one set, give us another half hour. The best MMW show I saw was at Lupo\'s in Providence, which is similar to Toad\'s setup, but overall for their blend of music, also prefer the setting of places like the Palace and the Warner Theatre in Torrington.

I thought that the first half of the show was really good, but they definately never seemed to get in synch later on in the show.  Maybe they haven\'t explored these new songs enough yet to really get out there on them...Illy B was on point all night though.

I\'m looking for Adrian, Billy Martin, and Stanton Moore to get a tour going...mmmmmmmm, DRUMS!
