Adirondack 540: should I do this race?
« on: »
This would be the hardest thing I ever did if I attempt it. Looking for peoples opinions.

The Adirondack 540 is a bicycle ride, 540 miles in 54 hours. you go night and day between 7a friday and 1pm sunday. The course is a 136 mile loop between Ticonderoga and lake Placid that you have to ride 4 times. There\'s a hotel at the start/loop point. 136miles is on average 8.5/9 hours, so I\'d be looking at doing 18 hours of riding, having a maximum of 18 hours off the bike, and then doing another 18 hours of riding. 2 loops, sleep, 2 loops.
7a -4p pm lap 1
4p -1am lap 2
1a- no later than 7pm sleep
no later than 7p-4a lap 3
4a-1p lap 4

Now, I did 450 in 3 days a few weeks ago, an average of 150 miles a day. That was home>boston>allis house> home. This would be 90 miles more and all within 2 days. This is a qualifying race for the ability to enter the annual race across america, a 3,000 mile race from california to maryland that takes place every june.

Also, I have a half ironman the weekend before this race.

I think you\'re completely out of your mind, but...

If you don\'t do this, you\'ll be wondering for whether or not you had the balls to actually do this, and if you\'d even finish the race, let alone win.  You\'ll question your choice for a long time.

However, if you make the decision to do this, Paul, you\'ll never need to wonder.  It\'ll be known.

So get ur ass on that bike and good luck!  Oh, and I\'ll def take your bike when you die, (...thanks in advance) ;)
