here\'s my contribution to the trivia questions:
bottom of the ninth, score is tied 5-5, home team has the bases loaded. batter hits a ground-rule double. what is the final score of the game?
gonna take a stab at this one and say 6-5 because the batter only has to reach first base safely for the ballgame to finish, therefor it wouldn\'t actually be a double, just a single and only the person on third needs to cross home plate.
oh and for you Sox fans, did you enjoy your April lead at the top of the division? how does it feel to know that the Yankees are winners of their last 6 and only 1.5 games behind?? Can you hear the footsteps coming from behind and about to pass you in the standings??

I\'m going to say 6-5 or 7-5... it COULD be 7-5 if the home team chooses to make it so, but it doesn\'t have to be. It all depends on how far the runners advance (anybody remember Robin Ventura\'s \'grand slam single\'?).

Hold on, I disagree. In the same situation, if the guy hits a home run then it\'s 9-5, I know that for sure, so by that logic if everyone still gets the bases they are entitled to, then it\'s 7-5. Let\'s go to the lookup...
Nope, you guys are right, the base entitlement rule is for home runs only. Good question! Let\'s stick to rules...here\'s two.
1. Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, home team down by 2, bases loaded. Batter hits a home run. The runner on third makes it 10 feet down the line towards home, steps in a drain and breaks his leg. He cannot get up to touch home plate. The runners behind him proceed to score. The visiting team appeals to third base. What happens?
2. 1 out, runner on third. Fly ball to the outfield. The runner on 3rd sees the left fielder touch the ball, then starts running for home. The left fielder has the ball go off of his glove, but he is backed up nicely by the centerfielder who makes the catch. The runner scores, but the defense appeals to third base, saying the runner left before the ball was caught. What\'s the call?

Without taking the injury into consideration, I would say that when the first runner behind him passes him, that is the third out. Thus the home team loses by two.

I remember seeing a play like this a few years ago. The runner is out on the appeal to third because the ball was not "legally caught" until the centerfielder caught it.
