Stinking rain out! It\'s not raining that hard out that a bunch of athletes getting paid millions of dollars couldn\'t play a 3 hours game that most of us would play for free for pure amusement. Basically, I\'m pissed that I don\'t have a game on DVR to watch with my daughter when I get home tonight.

Yeah play in the rain and watch a hitter get knocked unconscious because the ball slipped from a pitcher\'s hand due to excessive moisture. Yeah :sigh:

So I\'m away on business and about to miss my 1st opening day at Yankee Stadium in 7 years. The rain was in itself a silver lining.

It\'s nice to see Torii Hunter get a nice response in his return to Minnesota on a different team. Classy.

Oh and opening the season in another country is a bunch of bullshit and just adds to the erosion of Baseball\'s traditions.
At least The Reds still get the honor of being the only team guaranteed Opening Day at Home

I don\'t even care that they lost, hopefully with today\'s game they\'ll realize that Marmol is the closer and Wood has been done for 5 years.

It\'s not like it was a monsoon - I live 20 minutes from the stadium and it was like mosquito **** for most of the day. I wouldn\'t object if it was really coming down, but come on, it\'s opening day. Now all of those people that had tickets are going to have to settle for going to the second game and the lucky bastards who had tickets for the day game get the opening game. Not really fair to those that paid expecting to go to the first game, kind of like the people that bought tickets to see Billy Joel\'s final concert at Shea and then he adds more shows - nice way to end it out.

I\'ve been a baseball fan my whole life, and I really don\'t give two **** that they opened in Japan. Opening day for every fan is opening day in your own park anyways. Half the teams start on the road every year, this year 16/30 started on the road as opposed to 15/30. Sure, you can argue that someone didn\'t actually have a home crowd, but who really cares. If there were 50 total games maybe I would, but opening day is forgotten after a week when the reality of a 162 game grueling long season sets in. Talk to me if they hit Japanese turf in October, or even September, and I\'ll be sure to talk ****.

As for baseball\'s traditions, why don\'t we just remove their helmets, throw on some baggy wool shags come August, ban all elbow and shin protectors, and, oh yeah, deactivate all the fantastic Japanese talent loitering our treasured American soil. **** it, I say don\'t watch another game on TV this year and crowd the radio with your family waiting to hear the announcer clack two sticks together to emulate your \'traditional hero\'s\' dongs reaching cattle dens beyond the left field wall.

Am I exaggerating? Hell yeah. Is baseball even remotely "traditional" these days? Hell no. Good for the Japs. Enjoy seeing the best of the best when it actually counts for 3 out of the 2,430 games played a year.
