Annual Rock Paper Scissors International World Championships to take place in Toronto on October 25

International Players will compete for Largest Purse in RPS History

TORONTO, Sept. 16 /CNW/ - The World Rock Paper Scissors (RPS) Society is pleased to announce that Toronto, Canada will play host to the 2003 Rock Paper Scissors International World Championships. The Championships will bring the world\'s premier RPS players, together with unranked amateurs, to Toronto on October 25th to compete for the Championship Trophy and a total of $7,500 CDN, the largest purse in professional RPS history.

All non-ranked and amateur RPS players are invited to compete, in addition to professional players. The 2002 World RPS Championships brought more than 250 international competitors to Toronto last year, and sold out within 30 minutes of opening the doors.

"Based on the popularity of last year\'s event and international interest in the upcoming Championships, we\'ve secured a larger venue to accommodate more competitors, and increased the prize purse significantly," said Douglas Walker, Events Chairman, World RPS Society. "We\'re expecting teams and individual competitors from across Europe, North America and Asia."

The Championships will take place at The Kool Haus, 132 Queens Quay East, Toronto on October 25th, 2003. Doors open at 7:30p.m. Qualifying rounds begin at 8:00 p.m. Competitors can purchase tickets in advance for $16.00 at http://www.rpschamps.com ($20.00 at the door). Spectator tickets are $11.00 in advance ($16.00 at the door). The evening\'s entertainment will also feature the final rounds of the Miss RPS Competition where talented young women compete for the title of Miss RPS 2003 and the opportunity to be a role model for women in the sport everywhere.

As the governing body of the sport of Rock Paper Scissors, the World RPS Society plans and executes tournaments, conferences, symposiums and retreats across the globe.
