congrats on waiting til after phoenix won tonight to prove my statement from before the game started wrong. stupid ****.
you still got 3 teams at .250 and under where the east has 0.
 I didn\'t meant to do that really.
As for the teams at .250 who cares? Are those teams gonna go to the playoffs? No. 8 teams go and right now only 4 teams would make it in the East if they played in the West.
By the end of the year it will most likely be exactly the same as it has been the last few years.
you\'re wrong there too. only 4 teams would make it from the East if they played in the west? stick with me here, this might be hard for you to wrap your little brain around
The # 8 team in the West is Phoenix w/ a .526 winning percentage.
Chicago who is 6th in the East has a .529 winning percentage. The Knicks who are 5th have a .550 winning percentage.
that means if either of those teams were in the West they\'d make the playoffs right now. that makes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 teams from the east who could make the playoffs if they were in the West.
also the 3 teams w/ only 4 wins each matters because teams in the west play other western conference teams more often than Eastern Conference teams. That means they have 3 teams that are basically there to pad their winning percentages with
nice try leith, but get your facts straight. i know you\'re a giant homer for your west coast, but there is more parity this season between the two conferences, like it or not.

Ur right the NBA page has Chicago listed wrong. So OK 6 would make it right now.
Ur also right Western Conference teams do play Western opponents more often so how do you account for the fact that by the end of the year there are and will be more teams in the West with higher winning percentages than in the east?
Because the east is inferior. I\'ll even bet you 50 bucks and it\'s your choice either there will be more teams in the West over .500 or more teams in the West with a better winning % than in the east at the start of the playoffs.
there might be 1 or 2 more, but is that that big of a difference to say they\'re much better than the east? i really don\'t think so. its not gonna be 10 teams from the west over 500 and 5 teams from the east. it\'ll be closer to 8 and 7, which i don\'t think is big enough difference to say they are exponentially better.

Ur right 50 wins is a better indicator and we\'ve already gone over that. Let\'s see if a .500 team makes the playoffs again in the east this year. Sad.

50 wins is clearly a bigger task then being 41 and 41, but the way the basketball playoffs are laid out, 16 teams out of 30 make the playoffs, so there\'s almost always gonna be a team close to .500 that makes it in. unless the top 16 teams completely dominate the worst 14, its practically impossible to have at least 1 team w/ 41-44 wins in. In other words, I think too many teams make the playoffs, there\'s no need for more than half the league to make it. it should be more like football where the top 6 teams get in, and the top 2 get byes.

Only in the east really at least for the past decade
03-04 2 teams at .500 2 under .500 make playoffs
05-06 2 at .500 1 under
06-07 2 at .500 1 under
07-08 1 at .500 2 under
08-09 2 at .500 1 under
09-10 1 at .500
In the West not one team at .500 or under has made the playoffs in the past decade.
so 09-10 clearly shows that the east is working their way towards being on par with the west. its not much, but its progress.
Yeah we\'ll see.
As for the playoffs they have added games for revenue and you\'re right too many teams in but that is not going to change. Would be nice though.
no, def not changing any time soon, but it does give the nba playoffs a battle of attrition vibe. the season after the season is always exciting, i love the nba playoffs as much as if not more than any other sport.
We were ahead of ESPN Igz
ESPN had this blurb tonight on Sportscenter
West is Best
Above .800 West 2 East 1
Above .700 West 4 East 2
Above .600 West 7 East 4
Above .500 West 8 East 7
watching the celtics starting 5 is like watching the globetrotters. Kevin Garnett is the healthiest he\'s been in the past 3 seasons which will be huge come playoff time. Once Perkins is healthy and Delonte West is back to lead the bench(who haven\'t been playing all that great besides Big Baby), we\'re gonna be a force to be reckoned with. the Lakers are still the team to beat though, but I look forward to the opportunity. January 30th can\'t come soon enough.
