These people would most likely need to make a decision between the two and I would venture to say that most from the lower ffd county area would opt into the party rather than driving all the way to toads. honestly, thinking back to when i was planning matts party, we were not allowed to promote it at all because there was a toads show the same month. now you\'re talking the night before. is it worth the risk that a)it may take away from the possibly higher paying gig at toads for the boys and b)you may decrease your chances of return on your own investment?
so why not make it the following weekend or something?
Yah, i agree for those that can hack it and can make life arrangements to stay out all night 2 in a row it would be a superlatively (thought exhaustive) good time... BUT...
Point taken. I have considered all of those things. And the band and their agent are discussing those issues right now. They might not agree to play the party for the reasons stated above.
And I would LOVE to have the Breakfast play another weekend than March 5th but there isn\'t one free until the summertime and even those weekends I can\'t book this far ahead of time because they don\'t know what their tour looks like yet.
We\'ll see how it works out. It\'s really the band\'s decision so we\'ll have to let them decide what is the best solution.

ours was a sunday night where the monday was a holiday and had decent turnout, may be another option though does make it more risky for you.

Make the party what it was last time- word of mouth. No flyers and such- that only brings in possible trash and headaches (ala Annex Club). Maybe flyers with directions only handed out to select peeps at Toad\'s, so then you are not advertising the date. Make the entry 30 beans- still a steal for an open bar with the best band out there. Dedicate a BUNCH of people for wrist band checking, to make sure there are no freeloaders like last time. (And yes, I volunteer) I really don\'t think this would affect the Toad\'s show noticeably at all.
Just my two schillings worth

good ideas todd however remember to 1st weigh the cost-benefit analysis of the price increase; $60 for us, hypothetically speaking, or for light drinkers, would be prohibitive.

I dont think the Breakfast has fans that are "light drinkers" or cant hang 2 nights in a row....

God, I wish I could get over for this. $30 a head for band and unlimited beer would be a steal by British prices (and due to strong ? v $)!! Even a brand new pub band would charge at least ?2-3($5) for their first gig. I can remember the first band I was in after college: we charged ?1($2) in advance and ?2 ($4) on the door and were told we had to guarantee 100 people for a Tuesday night or else have to pay for the hire of the room. We managed 96 and had a good night, but this was 14 years ago.
However, given that most of the band\'s fans are probably not able to find $50-60 within two days ($30 for party plus entry to Toad\'s and beers on the Friday), especially if they are students/unemployed, then it would seem to make sense to do it a different night.
On the other hand, back-to-back Breakfast is what I\'ll be trying to find when I eventually get over there, so what do I know?!!!

granted, seeing the breakfast is worth any amount of dough i\'d have to dish out, however, i dont drink, so the open bar means nothing to me, and i would feel a little jipped paying thirty bones and only getting half the deal. maybe a slightly lower price for us nondrinkers (i know... few and far between), and then no wristband for us, maybe just a handstamp, and then the bartender can actually check the wristbands. just a thought. not sure if that adds too much hullabaloo.

or heres a thought, if trying to cut corners is the issue, why not skip the open bar altogether, make it BYO-whatever, and you only have to worry about recovering payment and hall rental? the rest of course becomes admin decision

Mel, That is a great idea. The idea of having an open bar is great, but if people are gonna whine about ticket price for a "privately funded show" just because they don\'t drink, then why not cut out the booze all together?
Wild 30-Pack of Bud Cans Tour!!
Jim Cobb, I am not trying to be a dick regarding your post, however in my head the open bar is not even a factor. For someone to throw a party at a hall and have the breakfast play 2 sets is worth $30 whether they have a fully stocked bar (like last time) or if he only gets 2 bottles of Coke and a pitcher of iced tea. Yeah, regular breakfast shows are $10-$15 bucks or whatever, don\'t you think it\'s worth the extra money for Terry? He is taking all the risks....
