Why not put all songs back in the rotation and add a space/trance/untz jam to it so that all of the tunnel-vision fans will be happy...
Why can\'t the breakfast play ballads that don\'t have jams associated with them (Vera Street / QMATM)? Phish does it and GD did it... Would you guys considerate epic or cheesy if they covered November Rain - it\'s a ballad... I don\'t get why people are forcing them to keep to essentially one sound, which is what bands like the disco biscuits do...
Disco Biscuits have covered:
Safety Dance
Novemember Rain
I\'ve Got a Feeling
Echoes
You Can\'t Always Get What you Want
Kashmir
Low (Florida)
Pygmy Twylyte
That\'s a pretty well rounded range of covers...and that is just off the top of my head. STFU Yoda and do some research before you make ignorant comments about a band you know NOTHING about.
BTW...I am a Bugs fan and I am all for bringing it back!
Sorry, but the several times I saw them open up for PB at Toad\'s back in the day, all they played was UNTZ style bullshit...
The Biscuits have played Toad\'s place exactly 2 times...neither were opening for the Breakfast. So what you are saying is that you have never seen this band live, yes? And I doubt you have ever given them a serious listen on tape...so before you articulate their sound and what they play, why don\'t you do some research first. Okay Buddy? Thanks.
i was gonna say, if the biscuits ever opened for PB, i would think the breakfast would be doing a lot better right now
You are all wasting your employers time with this bullshit. Get back to work!
gencs = the man
(and not in a good way)
Fine... I was wrong about the logistics. I do remember seeing them at Toads back in 2000 or 2001... Must have been there for the opening act... Regardless, I live in North Jersey, if I wanted to hear music with a club style beat, I can drive 10 minutes to Hoboken and there\'ll be 20+ places places music with the same sound, except it won\'t be a live band trying to sound like a dj playing music, it\'ll actually be the dj... On a side note, I give them props for Echoes...
Only Flounder can turn a thread about the Breakfast\'s song Bugs into a Disco Biscuits thread.....

Agreed! And having been into them for as long as I\'ve been into the Breakfast, felt that when I did finally get the chance to see them last year, they were blown away by Umph! All the UNTZ stuff gets sooooo boring. If they went back to the sort of stuff they were playing when they were on top of their game on the 2k tour,
THEN they would be a top band again. Forget "moving on" - if it ain\'t broke, don\'t try to fix it. Barber needs to wail on a more regular basis, which the current stuff does not allow him to do.
Incidentally, they did two decent additional covers when I saw them - Interstellar Overdrive and Have A Cigar (with Jake from UM).
Barbar totally sucks at guitar... it amazes me how many wrong notes a guy can hit when he almost never deviates from a boxed-in major pentatonic scale... it all sounds so the same and lazy. I mean even Timmy and Trey hit accidental notes (Trey moreso hehe) but they\'ve developed the skill to adapt on the fly and turn an accident into something unique and cool. Barbar lets those sour notes hang and IMO its way amateur.
Maybe some blues / jazz lessons? LOL people like it, they make bank, so whatever. The fact is Tim or Trey put more effort into a single song than Barbar puts into a whole show though.
Just my take as a guitar player. Love to see some guitar duals or other guitarist sit ins at a Biscuits show..... let\'s get Scofield up there for a minute to turn some worlds upside down

Just my commentary from having watched the video Zuke posted in the other thread

Please listen to the last 10 minutes or so of "Shelby Rose" from this show (
http://www.archive.org/details/db2006-11-03.mbho.flac16) and tell me "Barber totally sucks at guitar"
He really does adapt his playing to fit the particular jam or song the band is playing. His sound is very unique and fitting to the Biscuits overall sound. The type of guitar work Trey and Timmy do would not mesh well with the Biscuits\' sound at all. Apples and Oranges, it\'s really hard to compare

getting...angrier...by the...second....
luckily, i was able to catch a bunch of \'03-\'04 phish shows, so i stopped worrying about "correct" notes a long time ago. and i\'m not sure if it\'s the support he has or if it\'s him , but the biscuits/barber jam better on a more consistent basis than any other band i\'ve ever seen. no disrespect to the breakfast or phish, but the creativity of the biscuits is on a different level right now. and for the record i\'m only comparing present-day playing, not \'99 biscuits, or mid-90\'s phish, or the peak of the breakfast (whenever that was). tuna, i hope you\'re around this weekend to witness some of this. and if not, oh well...i\'m not in the business of trying to convince people of the biscuits\' greatness (i leave that to nicknels).
back to the subject at hand: i hope bugs never comes back. i agree that it does sound different...but in an amateur hour way. you know what else sounds different? reel time...and cosmic spaceway rhyme (i know it\'s probably not coming back, but i love the song)...and a lot of the elements of \'vessel.\' hopefully those are more present in future shows than bugs.
