With the bustout of all the noobs, the classics have gained new life. I love the fact that the older heavy hitters are gradually becoming (more and more) rare and special at any given show. The "Awww **** what are they gonna\' bust out??!!" factor is swelling.

And I can\'t believe how fast Chris has picked this **** up, regardless of how long he had been practicing with the band before his announcement. It\'s really incredible.

I was wondering-- if The Breakfast had a one set show and played 8 tunes, 7 of which were the noobs, what would be your pick for the old original fill.. Be creative with a segue or sandwich too.

or maybe a simpler

*Rush > Puppetry > Rush*
The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sagethicket. "Vamanos amigos," he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintscraw over the loose weave of the saddlecock. And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight.  --Eli Cash

My thought is that half the band is new; the focus should definitely be on new tunes.  The old tunes are great, but they should build up a catalogue to the point that they can do a show entirely on material that "this band" wrote with a couple older tunes to supplement.  I\'m sure that my comments will **** off fans of the classic tunes, but lets be fair to Matt and Chris and let this be their band too, rather than being replacements for Ron and Jordan.

I like all the new tunes to some degree, but we still need a new one that is straight-up epic.

I think you may have misinterpreted my point. The growing catalogue of new tunes is what\'s exciting everything about their shows for me. Like seeing Phish in \'98, I\'d be stoked to hear all of Ghost-- throw in Fluffhead somewhere and I\'d dump in my pants. Maybe it isn\'t the best comparison because the original lineup was intact :chin: . But I\'m ALL for them having enough new material to span an entire show, but would be devastated if they abandoned their songs that I fell in love with in the first place, especially with the new blood finding the groove so quickly and so well.

I\'m a huge fan of 3+4. I hope you\'re right peaches, and I\'ll be the first to give you full credit for standing as the strong, lonely minority. Consider me your E.E.T.F. secretary. Is that weird?

I understood you comment, but I have a feeling that a lot of people are waiting for them to bust out all of their old tunes.  I personally think that they should willingly turn the corner on a new phase of the band and use the older tunes sparingly, not the majority of a set.

SET1
dead air
Feel Like a Stranger
Dire Wolf
Minglewood Blues
Brown Eyed Women
Wang Dang Doodle
Big Railroad Blues
Let it Grow
Day Job
 SET2
China Cat Sunflower
I Know You Rider
Playin\' in the Band
China Doll

7
Throwin\' Stones
One More Saturday Night
ENCORE
Brokedown Palace

That\'s probably not the best example (but I was only looking at the shows on stash.nugs.net) but the grateful dead were able to do an okay job and rotating old (brokendown palace, china/rider) and new songs (stranger, throwin\') with some frequency and balance.

[The obivous counter point is that songs like "Allegator" disapeared with Pigpen and "Sunrise" with Donna]
