Joe, an interesting thread indeed. Especially for me. I grew up on this stuff. All the songs that you listed are all in my music collection.
The band would KILL each of the songs posted in this thread. It would be unique because NO ONE covers them, and because they can put their own spin on them.
I concur. The Tony Williams Lifetime material in particular. Especially now with Matt in the band. After reading his interview in the Breakfast Digest when he mentions bands like Weather Report and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. I certainly think he would be up for it. To my ears, the intro and outro to Spunk is jazz fusion and I think that adding a smoking fusion (or prog) cover to a set would be sick.
ok I didn\'t read this whole thread but...
From conversations I\'ve had with the guys, and seeing them play obscure covers (IE Packard Goose(not super obscure)) the whole idea of covering a song is to play something that everyone immediately knows and react to, not a song no one\'s ever heard of.

Which is a cheap and mundane marketing ploy. The key is to take chances and set examples musically, otherwise people will continue to write them off as a 4th tier bar/jamband. I\'m not trying to compare tb to Phish, but as you know they\'re VERY similar whether they like it or not. Phish on crack so to speak. Do you think they gave a
**** about the covers they picked? Everything for the most part was INCREDIBLY obscure. The Breakfast have a chance to really make a name for themselves, and trust me, this would be a sure thing.
they NEED to bring back King of the World.

So the Breakfast are cheap and mundane? If you think that Phish didn\'t play the game when they where at this level you\'re being naive. Even if so the Breafast are playing in a different time than Phish were. I think they definatley gave a
**** what covers they picked. But yeah as you already said The Breakfast are not Phish this is a different time and a different place, that\'s just kinda how it is today they have to play the game.
That being said, you and I have had our diference of opinion before, and I\'ve come to realize neither of us will change that opinion. So continue with your thread....
I never said the Breakfast are cheap and mundane, I said playing covers just for the sake of getting attention is cheap and mundane, and NOT artistic. Phish played the game when they were in college, then the second they left for the real world they incorporated incredibly obscure
**** and made it their own. Funky
****, Ya Mar, yeah, I\'m sure the audiences were well versed in those American standards. I\'m not saying The Breakfast should completly cancel out their "cover selections", but rather intergrate better and obscure ones to make their own, kind of what Phish did.
BTW has anyone else besides Boombox and RickeyRoux even taken a listen to the songs posted? Or is this just a normal run-of-the-mill gang .info gang mentality, lets be argumentative for the sake of being argumentative thread instead of being proactive and positive thread?
I don\'t think there\'s much gang mentality here, it\'s just Wah being Wah, don\'t expect anything else from him, and me, and I already left you to your own devices.

I thought I was being psuedo nice here.
And no I doubt any one has listened to any of these songs, which returns to my original point.
walks out of thread
I listened to a couple of them, woke up an hour later...and posted:
:crickets:
i don\'t see how anyone can deny that the breakfast\'s current covers rotation is laughable..
I don\'t deny that for a second. They REALLY need to totally revamp their selections!
agreed. i\'m just not sure obscure prog covers is gonna help any, either...
BTW has anyone else besides Boombox and RickeyRoux even taken a listen to the songs posted?
:banwave: I haven\'t listened to any of your "covers" since you\'ve only posted up ones that you like, and we\'re all supposed to sit around and discuss
your musical selections. We already have a PB covers thread, chip.
No, I posted covers that the band would absolutely rip and fit perfectly into their chemistry. The closed mindedness is baffling... It\'s a big surprise the core fanbase is twentysomething people.
