its funny how people get amnesia when they have to prove a point. Could you remind me how good the sound was at UAC?
P.S. Im not trying to bash dobz on this one, im just saying that its a freaking roller coaster ride with these guys and its not a smooth one to say the least.
Yeah Ok I\'ll give you that to a certain extent. I thought he did an absolutely fabulous job overcoming the problems he faced that night. Besides it is not a venue set up specifically for rock shows so in light of that fact I would say once again an excellent sound achieved.

:that: as we found out in Utica... leith, don\'t u remember Greg\'s lights @ the Electric Co.? I\'m sure they were "psychedelic" enough back then ... I didn\'t hear u complain about them AT ALL from your spot on the couch
Well I am going to be real truthful here. I remember his lighting so well it is one of the things I have been biting my tongue about.
In the state I was in it occured to me how mundane and repetitive his lighting was. I thought his use of certain colors was totally out of sync w/ the mood of the music and I could not get out of my head how much he likes to pan wildly to create motion when he really does not need to. I can go on in this vein but why bother I\'ll end this bit by saying I did see some things that gave me some hope for his lightshow.
I was knocked around hard by the music being created so you have to take it all w/ that in mind.
well I tried to lighten this thread up but I guess I failed miserably, aaahhh well let the shitstorm return
No way man this thread does not need to be a shitstorm. I did not say his lighting was still mundane and repetitive. I\'ll post that if it remains so, in a few weeks.
I mean I WAS tripping balls to the mind\'s wall I\'ll tell you what. So I could have been the one outta sync. I mean I was
**** up!!!!!!!!
maybe shitstorm was the wrong term but trierd to lighten things up and it came right back to where it was no big....rant away
Love Lake is not so epic.
im not trying to fuel the fire here, just add to the debate...
does anyone remember 8/6/04 at the knitting factory with seth wolfy on lights? he just had the white and orange house lights and did a great job and it was a light show that talked about on timmy tour for a couple weeks after as being pretty great. but its probably not a fair comparison because the band didnt have a lighting designer as part of the crew at that time. i shot video that night with paul and drew and i would really like to watch those tapes back to back with the most recent knitting factory.
This is my last post on this matter:
I understand where everybody is coming from, I appreciate any and all constructive criticism. I am aware of my downfalls as well as my strengths, and I think about it constantly as to how to improve my part of the show. Until I have a complete rig to work with things will continue to be to some degree inconsistant as well as frustating to those of you who capture the bands performance on film. To those of you who enjoy my light show; thank you, to those of you who have useful tips; thank you, but if you feel any sort of dissapointment in what i do, all I can say is sorry, and I hope that the next time you see us I make up for it.

Bravo, Ellis, Bravo. That\'s a professional response right there. I have no concern with the lights, half the time I don\'t even remember they\'re there (could be due to the amount of consumed alcohol, who knows). But, either way, keep up the good work!
like i put it to johnny upstate last night:
luckily, his light show is sort of the opposite of his poker game.
he\'s a pretty shitty poker player, but every once in a while he gets lucky and has a good game. he\'s pretty good on lights, but every once in a while he has a bad night and does a shitty job.
as a fan of the band, and someone who plays poker with him on a weekly basis, i am glad it\'s not the other way around.
and here i was wondering ta thread about the new love lake\'s epicnees could possibly have made it to six pages. because, while its a cool tune, it is in no way epic. certainly not as it has been presented so far.
as to the lights, i love \'em, but i also usually have my eyes closed, so what do i know. a little front/ambient lighting would be decent, imho, but if that\'s not what you\'re going for, then ignore me. i\'ve run lights for theatre stage productions not bands, so i gladly bow out.
I\'ll say this in person in a few weeks but I just want to thank you Greg for taking the time to address the concerns of some of us relating to the lightshow you put on.
We know you did not need to bother letting us in on your "style " or what not. Just as we want the best from the 4 musicians we want the best from the support crew.
You are doing a fine job overall and I\'m sure I will have no complaints once you master your"style".
Well maybe one or two.
GREG ELLlS RULEZ MY FUCKIN FACE!! YOUR LIGHTS OWN ME BABY!! PME ON LlGHTS ALERT! I LOVE YOUR MOM <3

Last two times I flew in to see the band (when I was living in New England, Greg wasn\'t on lights yet), I don\'t remember much of the light show as it took a backseat to the booze. Looking forward to seeing Greg on tour, along with Leith\'s commentary throughout the shows
