i caught wind of this thread a couple of days ago, and i would just like to say the following:
1: I do not always have front light, and if i do, i almost always use it as much as i see fit, since most if the time its just white wash in the front i tend to leave it out unless they are singing.
2: I apologize to all photographers that have a hard time with my style, but until there is more money in the light fund, and in turn more equipment, there will continue to be numerous "dark" moments.
3: I am very capable of running conventionals and my lights at the same time leith, using the puppethouse as an example, is a very low blow in my opinion as im sure you saw what i was working with and you more than anybody should be understanding of what i was dealing with there.
4(and most important imo): I would like to refer all of you who feel my style unacceptable to a couple of dvds that I have found most reassuring to my self. The latest Radiohead show from 94 in London, and Primus\' Hallucinogenics show are both prime examples of bands with ld\'s that prefer not to use a lot of front light. It is a stylistic decision and one that I along with many other people use to convey an idea of wholeness as oppossed spotlighting somebody everytime they solo. It is something I have thought about for as long as I\'ve been doing this, and am very happy with the results. Hell, Radiohead\'s LD does the same thing, and they sell more tickets than just anybody on the planet in the last five years at least.
To those who feel I still need improvement, I wholeheartedly agree with you, I feel like every show i get a little better, but still have much improvement to go, but to those who do not enjoy my stylistic decisions, sorry, but that will not change anytime soon. So, I hope you all enjoy the show as much as I do, and look foward to seeing you all at the shows...
