• I need clarification.  On some setlists I see jam > Cut Me Some Slack, but on other setlists I see no jam included, but the tune still includes that intro jam.  Is that jam in A Dorian part of the song or is it a seperate entity?  this is similar to the "ahoy" discrepancy brought a couple months ago.  maybe wolfman could shed some light.  which is correct "Cut Me Some Slack" or "jam > Cut Me Some Slack"?

  my view:
  
  CMSS almost always contains an opening jam. however, that jam is not composed, and CMSS is not necessarily identifiable by that opening jam. you never really know it\'s CMSS until those 5 notes hit. most CMSS opening jams can go in many other directions other than CMSS.. so...
  
  i prefer the jam > CMSS notation..

• i dunno every time i\'ve seen them play cmss, the jam has been recognizable.  and not just to me, at porters, bezerker came up to me during the first 30 seconds of the jam and said "cut me some slaaaack man".

• oh don\'t get me wrong, it\'s certainly recognizable a lot - especially when tim starts the jam with that sound (you know the one i\'m talking about).. but like i said, it\'s not necessarily identifiable by the opening jam..
  
  and typing that made me realize:
  
  usually when tim starts the jam with that sound, i\'ll just write CMSS, but when the jam doesn\'t start with that, i do jam > CMSS.

• **** Breakfast discussion...love it.  That sound is definitely the CMSS cue, and thus the start of the song.  So as Dave said, if it starts with that, CMSS.  If they jam into that, then jam > CMSS.  I think things may eventually develop into more plain CMSS with no jam notation.  The jam just becomes an understood, an assumed part of the song that is engrained into the song.  Think of Phish\'s jams into David Bowie, DWD, Ghost, and Maze.  All very, very similar.  But eventually you never saw jam > before those songs because the jam became understood.
  
  Now that I think about it, seeing DWD > Ghost > Maze > Bowie sounds pretty good right about now.
