The real question in my brain is, does bad sound make for a bad show; does good sound make for a better show?

Anyone who\'s seen a Living Room show can testify as to how bad poor sound really is...

And then we\'ve got power failures. Have to LOVE the power failures.... (ah, the days of the Tool in the Barn...)

Amen to that...Just like the barn, we experience the good ol power failures at Uconn last Friday night...
Good sound can make a band sound that much better....With bad sound, people can walk away from a performance disgusted with a band just due to the sound...

It is the MOST important thing at a show. BAD sound ruins shows for diehards as well as newbies.

Sound @ a Britney show needs to be perfect so the pre-recorded tracks seem consistent. Wolf Dude u r picky. U saying u wouldn\'t....? Come On now tell the truth. u can\'t be that much of a hater.
kindm\'s I\'m assuming u mean most important after the quality of the musicians. I mean a shitty band is a shitty band no matter how good the sound is yeah?

All things being equal the sound is more important than the musicians in my opinion. The skill of the musician has little to do with quality of sound. A cover band that has limited talent but a killer sound system and high quality instruments would SOUND better than a experimantal band of talented musicians with crappy instruments and a shitty sound system.

Sound is very much a perseption idea at least what is being processed by each indivual listener

I agree to a point. Depends on what you\'re listening for I guess. A really good band would in my opinion overcome bad sound as evidenced by every GD show played in the Oakland Arena otherwise known as the Cavern and half the other dumps they played comin\' up. Oh! and as evidenced by PB who seem to overcome this obstacle in many of the places they play w/ the help of their ever resourceful A1.

The grateful dead had cutting edge sound men as well as great EQ. Those elements can overcome a shitty VENUE (to an extent). See there are so mnay elemnets to the mix it is difficult t say which is most important.

I like discussing this topic. It shows the many differences in everyones perception of sound. Kind of cool

the most important thing is talent, but a bad sound system can render it irrelevant. a good sound system isn\'t going to make anyone more talented. ah but a great sound system makes things so much better. the dead put a large percentage of their income into their systems even when they weren\'t making much money....it almost put them under, but is just one of many examples of them sticking to their plan and their principles no matter what (like never changing their name)
