Grassroots promotion generally goes hand-in-hand with a high level of fan interest. One can\'t even think about promoting another band before having a thorough understanding and appreciation of the music. I guess I\'ll give the guy credit for his devotion and recruiting efforts, though I think making the suggestion that you explore UMelt\'s music is the most appropriate first step in the process of herding new fans.
All I know is that The Breakfast is lucky to have your promotional efforts in an under-served region!
This is sorta funny just cause me and my roomate at school both use archive.org fervently and each found a band we really like a lot (an understatement for me). If you can guess it, i found Bfast and he found U-melt. I personally can\'t really get into U-melt very much, he dragged me to see them twice now and wasn\'t too impressed. But what does impress me is the manager who reads PT boards looking for ways to help his band. Might have been a lil foward to send you that babbling email tho.
Yeah, I give the guy credit for trying, but that was quite a mouthful for a first contact. It almost scared me away...I got a desperate vibe from him, you know?
st00pid sidenote: both bands being discussed have gone threw name changes
a440> The Unbelievable Meltdown
Psychedelic Breakfast> The Breakfast
have yet to hear any U-Melt, but I hear that they do decent covers of "Bubblehouse" and "It\'s Ice"
btw, kyndkate needs a fluffer
wait, Buquebus...you saw that?! Aw, man!
someone created a mock thread, "KyndKate needs a muffler"
I told him to eat aardvark

**** UMelt, ask the dude what\'s in it for you? Why should you waste your precious time in an effort to spread the word about a band who no one can see?
UMelt=Ulost
Here\'s my reply.
Hi Jason,
I\'m flattered that you would give me this kind of responsibility. I also
admire you for searching Phantasy Tour to see what fans want and to find new
and improved forms of promo. I think you\'ve definitely got it right in that
respect. I am always open to music; however, I\'m going back to college in 3
weeks and I\'m gearing up for a tough semester. I have my hands pretty full
with Breakfast promo around my campus (I\'ve been working with the local
brewing company to bring them back this fall) and my resources are dwindling
(aka cash, CDs). I\'m very willing to download some U-Melt and give it a
listen, but I just can\'t promise too much or any extra time right now. Next
summer might be a different story, but there\'s a limit to what I can do at the
present.
In "working" for The Breakfast (all of my promo is strictly self-driven, self-
funded, and done in my spare time; the band is somewhat aware of my goings-on,
but I\'m not officially on a street team), I\'ve found that there is a huge
unreached population here in the Midwest, and I\'ve pledged myself to drawing
bigger crowds for them right now. It\'s not just a Breakfast thing at this
point, it\'s also a personal thing. I\'m starting to develop a relationships with other fans and getting my good friends into them.
Even though I\'m in college earning a biology degree, my dream job is in the
music business. This has been a good learning opportunity for me, and lesser-
known jamband promo is something I would love to do full-time. For right now,
though, I have to keep things real and finish my degree. Maybe someday I can
make it full-time, but right now I\'m just trying to keep it a hobby. Don\'t get
me wrong, I know how hard it is for bands to make it these days, but I\'m only
one person. I\'ll keep in touch, though, and share as much U-Melt music as I
can.
Most sincerely,
Kate Sipla
Btw, that last sentence is complete bullshit.

UMelt=Ulost
are they invisible?? why can no one see them??

Pfft whatever. One could say the same
**** abt the Bfast. U-Melt has more dates listed on their website through a longer time period than the Bfast first off so if one where to go by your statement The Bfast is the band no one can see.
There is room for more than just The Bfast and due to their sparse touring schedule other bands have to fill my live music jones. So having a
**** Umelt attitude could very well be
**** Bfast on another board.
Just a reality check bro. nothin\' more. Peace.
my bad, what I meant to say is see a band the kyndkate can\'t see.
My point was this, why promote a band that won\'t be coming to your area? Small bands like The Breakfast and UMelt depend on their live performances to bring in creating a fanbase. I have heard bands on disc before and have never seen them, never been hooked by one of them, like them? yes but never hooked.
trust when I say that UMelt will not be in the midwest for another 2-3 years. They are still playing house parties.
Here\'s my reply.

If that last sentence was B.S. why even write it? You could have just said You know I really don\'t think I\'m going to spread any U-Melt as The Breakfast rule my soul so I probably will never hear from you again. Thanx though Peace. or something like that? I mean I know I would rather someone be truthful w/ me about something I cared for alot (such as this guy does for U-Melt). I guess that\'s just me.

Uh I first heard Phish on tape and I knew I HAD to see them Hooked yes. Oh and I believe my first exposure to a little band named PB was this disc Bonafide. Hooked Yes. Both bands I had to wait AWHILE to ACTUALLY SEE live and I was hooked b4 then. You never know where the next great musical experience of your life will take place so I find it easier to avoid shock when it happens by keeping an open mind.
Okay okay okay you two. Cut it out.

The last sentence of my reply may not have been complete bullshit, but sure I\'ll let the guy keep my email address and if I happen to like some of the mp3s on their website and he sends me a live show, I\'ll think about it. It\'s just not happening anytime soon is all.
I\'ll think about it. It\'s just not happening anytime soon is all.
if he wants your help why not ask him to supply burned shows and postage? If he wants your help thats the least he can do. If he agrees you can send a umelt cd to all the breakfast fans and you wont have to spend any money of your own on postage. its no more work for you and less money you have to spend.
Okay okay okay you two. Cut it out.

That\'s what i figured. You never know the show he sends may be rightous and worth passing on.
