I think they need to start getting more heads to shows before they worry about creating the utlimate light show, unless someone is going to donate the equipment to the band.

The flashing of the lights to my eyes goes well with the bombardment of my eyes by the notes.

Those hanging pieces of fabric are Transformit brand tension fabric. Basically spandex. More expensive so probably more down the line. Muslin is a tougher fabric not stretchable as the tension fabric but with the right size piece he can still make a backdrop to work off of.

You underestimate the value and pull of a full fledged lighting show.
Besides these things I mentioned are far from the "ultimate light show" but rather an inexpensive way(Muslin) to fill out the set design now and give the crowd more for their money. While thinking about the future and the possibilities.

Candace\'s lighting was never as annoying and aggressive as Ellis\' lighting style.

If anything that woman created huge palettes of color to accentuate the music being played and eased one\'s eye and helped create mood just as much as the band. She is still doing that with WSP now.
What those reviews were talking about were the untrained anybodies that would
just flash lights while tripping balls at Acid trips and the such. Ellis is not just an anybody and has come a long way but......
Ellis is obsessed with becoming the next Kuroda. He just does not have the toys so he overcompensates. When he has a rig that is decent, he is not nearly so annoying. Toad\'s shows are a great example as he knows the rig and has what he needs to create a great show w/o being so flashy flashy.

At this level a lighting show is a BIG draw. It also gives a bit more credence to a band than one w/o a "full show".
Besides they already have a lighting show and their fulltime LD already puts time into setting up his show and this would not add that much more time.
Having seen the direct effect of adding lighting to bands and seeing the increase of interest in those bands I think it would be a great idea and think that it would be just another way to get more heads to shows.
Better idea than you have come up with in this thread.
I think Leith is right. I see absolutely no reason to not improve the show-goer\'s experience if it can be done for a reasonable amount of money and effort. A better, more complete experience will help keep new fans coming back.

totally. after rereading my other posts, i think i came across too critical. i\'m not trying to bash ellis\' skills as a lighting designer. let me just say, i think he does a fabulous job. the kid\'s definitely got chops, i just don\'t like lights in my eyes/not being able to see the band. just one man\'s opinion. but seriously, i would love to see what he\'d do with a nicer rig.
