Wow... I can almost hear Dave getting ready to merge this one based on the title.
I was wondering to myself, and felt compelled to share, what songs the band CURRENTLY covers. I have a complete list of what the band has covered since 1998, but most of those were only played once or haven\'t been played since 2002.
Here are all of the covers played since the band became a trio.
2001
Angel (multiple plays)
Band on the Run
Earache My Eye
Fearless
Flower Punk
I Feel Free
In the Flesh
Jumpin\' Jack Flash
Lithium
Little Wing
Memory of a Free Festival
Message in a Bottle (multiple plays)
One Big Mob
Peaches en Regalia (multiple plays)
Question (multiple plays)
Rockin\' in the Free World (multiple plays)
Shakedown Street
Space Oddity
Synchronicity II
The Man in Me
The Needle and the Damage Done
Tom Sawyer
Welcome to This World (multiple plays)
We\'re an American Band (multiple plays)
Willie the Pimp
Working Man
Obviously the band could "bust-out" anything on any night, but 26 different songs covered in the last 39 shows is probably a record low for a stretch of shows that long in the band\'s history. I suppose I\'m OK with it. Though I am a fan of live covers, I have no problem with the band showcasing as many originals as possible, especially on tour. This is just another way that the band is changing that caught my interest as a cruncher of statistics and lover of well-done covers.
Any thoughts from the peanut gallery? What\'s the story from those who have been in the van/room where the setlists are made?
Covers are and should be a special addition to any show. Not an expected and anticipated part. "Bowl of chocolates"
I\'d rather hear just about any original Breakast song over any cover.
"2001" is an exception, so is Memory of a Free Festival.. Tom Sawyer and Working Man are cool too.
But frankly I think a lot of those songs suck to begin with.
i really wanna hear them do \'Willie The Pimp\' and \'Help>Slip>D5
love \'Question\'. and \'Memory of a free Fest\'. and \'Welcome to This World\' MUST stay in rotation
One thing I will say: their covers are, in general, SO much better than they used to be. There have always been songs that they covered that I liked... but I was never one to get excited about, say... a Doors song. I really think they are making much better choices nowadays...
Def. keep Welcome to this World. the Mezzanotte version was incredible
and \'Band on the Run\' i love as well. loved it at the last porter\'s show.
Def. keep Welcome to this World. the Mezzanotte version was incredible
:that: Can\'t wait to get a hold of this recording!!! So much of this night was perfect!!!
