I\'ll poke through and see if there are any past threads, but if anyone knows offhand it would be appreciated. I just started using an SG this summer- after watching their set at the Stone Pony earlier this year, i got inspired by tim\'s tone ;)

Anyone know if he uses any noise gates or anything to eliminate buzz or hum? Its so quiet when he\'s not playing!

if this is the wrong forum, i apologize. Im new here
its alive!!!

he has a volume pedal that he turns down in between songs to tune and whatnot, no noise gate.  the sg is no more, he\'s now using a fender strat.

popular timmy trick: digitech whammy (set up an octave) -> electro harmonix q tron for that almost steel drum kind of sound (see sleeping beauty instrumental/bridge).  another one: volume pedal swells -> delay.  he also uses a boomerang for some of the more spacey, ambient stuff.

what do you think of the strat? it sucks that tim lost both of his guitars this summer, but i really like the strat maybe even more than the SG.

The Strat overall, is the best sounding one, IMO. However the SG is definitely missed for thse harder edged songs. Though I\'m not a big Tele fan, I definitely miss that one too.

I know of a guy in Minneapolis that repairs vintage guitars, **** necks, headstocks, etc.  A guy I know had his guitar rapaired by this guy and you would never know that it was broken ..... If anyone is close to Tim have him email me at bryan_kriech@hotmail.com and I can get the guys # for him....he could drop it off when he is in Minneapolis next week.  I will shoot Tim an email also...

Thanks

the problem with the sg is that it is a solid piece of wood, where as something like a strat or tele are a body that is bolted to a neck. because of this, it is alot harder and much more expensive to fix a problem with the neck of an sg. Tim still has the sg, though it wont hold a tune anymore and the strings rattle from being too close to some of the frets. :(

From the two times I\'ve seen them I remember the SG being pretty sweet sounding. It\'s shame it\'s knackered but I love Strats.
I have a Sunn Mustang (Strat copy) that I stole from my dad many years ago. I use it in my band. I should buy another but the sound is gorgeous. I recently had the nut replaced and the selector switch definitely needs replacing as the connection is faulty in the first three positions. I tend to keep it more in the 4th or 5th positions and put it through my rather simple set up. Cry Baby Wah into Dod FX 57 American Metal, which I bought second hand years ago. The combo of the low end strat sound through the wah creates some beautiful sustains. The only problem I have is feedback, it\'s really difficult to keep under control. I\'m working on it at the moment and I was gonna get a Boss M2 but got screwed on Ebay. Our bass player\'s in China for two months so I\'m not gonna need it urgently till after then but for the moment my Dod is God. *ba-bum*
