If you think I am just bitching and moaning  and making a big deal over nothing thats fine...your entitled.

But recognize the fact that some people like to actually consider and discuss things in a logical and relevant manner as opposed to just saying "It\'s cool brah....just go with the flow...smoke another doob and quit your bitching man" and moving on. Ya dig?

Also, in case you missed the blatant light hearted humor in the OMS T-Shirts and think I am just being negative and mean I assure you I am not!

I am gonna end my participation in this thread here because I have laid down the gospel enough on the issue already to enlighten even the most ignint among us.

Good luck to the band in Oberlin. NOHO will be hot as always. Hope to see you all there. Might make it to brahlington too but I think its going to have a heavy day after, hung over, let down cloud hanging over it. I hope I am wrong about that though. We shall see!

let me re-phrase...

as someone not in the NE, ohio is a much shorter drive than brahlington. so, for those of us in the rest of the country, its GREAT to see them FINALLY playing bigger gigs outside of the NE!

as a fan, you must want them to grow their fan base, and this is exactly how they do it. rather than playing for the same folks who have a choice of 150ish shows a year to see in new england, play to those of us who haven\'t had a gig in our state in a year or more and are hungry for it.

the reason attendance is down at toads is because they\'ve been playing there multiple times a year for ten-ish years now, as opposed to playnig gigs in the southeast or northwest or the plains to people who haven\'t had localish a show in years... oversaturation. its hard to expand a fanbase without expanding their touring area.

is playing ohio on a friday night halloween the best idea ever? who kows. but is the band playing big gigs outside of the northeast a phenomenal thing for the band to do? most certainly.

Case in point.....LAST YEARS FREAKOUT!
I get the feeling that the fact that it was the Freakout was irrelevant to the success of that show. Spread the word that you\'re playing Lawn Boy (in Brahlington, no less), and people will be there, regardless of the day.

Also, despite the awful football team that Oberlin puts on the field on a yearly basis (which is relevant to this thread only in that it made us aware of the fact that Wolfman has nothing to do at work), chew on this quote about Oberlin Conservatory.

Quote
One advantage [of Oberlin] is that there are only undergraduates, and the reason I think this is an advantage is that at a school like Juilliard or other schools you might name that have a very strong or large population of graduate students is that those students, by their nature, tend to be somewhat more vocationally minded. They are understandably worried about their next step as musicians: How are they going to enter the industry? How are they going to make a living? And because of that, that can trickle down. The nice thing at Oberlin is that they are immensely talented, but they\'re not really concerned about their future. They might be a little bit, but it\'s not what occupies their thoughts. They are thinking about music as an art form. They\'re preoccupied with how they\'re going to change the artistic culture. And I think that\'s actually very important.

whaaaa, the band is getting paid and playing for new potential fans instead of for me and the same group of 100 people that always get to see them, whaaaa...

promote it and get 100 new people to show up.

and then play boston the weekend after. :)

this all started out as a lighthearted joke to get the guys to come back to boston cause we miss them up here and i could get a ton of people to show up who aren\'t about to travel 2.5 hours to see a band they\'ve never seen before.

it\'s a little irritating when such a big city gets ignored and buttfuck redneckia keeps getting shows that maybe 3 or 4 people are gonna show up at and that\'s just because it\'s the only bar in town. ;)
