Nice incentive to do homework

Let ask a serious q here.

Do you think that DARE educates kids about drugs or does it make them aware of drugs? I feel that DARE teaches kids about drugs but not in the way it is intended.

dare is severely over the top and in fact achieves the opposite of what it intends to do.  when i first smoked pot and realized that it wasnt at all what dare made it out to be, i totally disregarded everything i was taught there, even the stuff that was valid. (very little, but still some nonetheless)

as for this situation, i think it\'s terribly irresponsible to smoke pot with your 11 year old child.  the younger someone starts using drugs, the more likely they are to develop addiction.  during those developmental years, a kid should be learning other methods of coping with life than using drugs.  when someone who has spent that time learning healthy coping skill uses drugs, they\'re less likely to develop a problem because they don\'t need to use those drugs as a way of dealing.  someone who has no other coping mechanisms would, without even realizing it, use drugs for this purpose because it is much easier than learning healthy ways of coping with life.  i mean, who WASN\'T an insecure mess in middle school??  throw drugs into the mix and it\'s a recipe for early stages of addiction.  for your kid\'s high school graduation, sure light one up with him/her, but teaching an 11 year old that whenever he does something he\'s supposed to do, he gets to get ripped is just asking for trouble.

I\'ll never forget being in a restaurant when  my daughter was around 6 or 7 and having her say to us, in a not too quiet voice, that we do drugs.....because we smoked cigarettes. That was when her mom and I came up with our own version of drug education (and no...we didn\'t smoke pot with her!!). And thank God it has worked so far. If they continue to put cigarettes in the same category as cocaine and heroine, our youth is headed for disaster. One big problem is that you have people that have never tried drugs trying to teach children about drugs. :sigh:

Yea, really, that\'s like getting advice on sex from a priest! You should wait until your married and then "go forth and multiply" until the planet is overun with humans and society breaks down due to lack of food, land and corruption of power and we declair a "holy war", "hundred years war", "war of the roses", "manifest destiny", "great war", "russian revolution", "revolutionary war", "civil war", "world war", "cold war", "war on terror", or anything else you want to call it, (because murder is a sin, but fighting on the side of god is a free ticket to heaven, no matter which side your on) to get what the other guys got and we use that to trim back the numbers. Afterward, all the men come home and a baby boom starts (but only after marriage!) because they haven\'t had anything at all for years on end, then we start the paragraph over.

but that would never happen!
