The ONE and ONLY 2006 Baseball Thread!!

How about the Green Monster eating Lastings Milledge for dinner?  What\'s the phobia for a fear of huge walls?  He\'s got it.  He\'s having nightmares about the Monster right now.  I can actually picture Wally The Green Monster (Sox Mascot) with a sinister look in his eye, cornering Milledge for a few minutes before biting his head off and chewing slowly.

How about Ramirez gunning down superspeedster Reyes on a *perfect* throw.  Manny plays some sick D.  Whoever was on here earlier saying he doesn\'t last watched the Red Sox in game 1 of the 2004 World Series.  Then when the Mets could have thrown out Manny at home on the same play, their throw was 20 feet offline.

Also loved Reyes plowing into Varitek with a full head of steam...and Reyes is the one who gets hurt.  Next time stay down, punk!

How about Youkilis ripping Pedro\'s second pitch back up the middle while Pedro\'s welcome back ovation was still going on?  Welcome back, bitch! rotfl That was a hilarious moment.

Did you know that last night the Sox broke the AL record for consecutive games without an error (13)?  And that Ortiz played first base for 6 of those games?

So many great moments the last two games.  Bottom line: put the Mets in the AL East and they\'re a game or two over .500 and in fourth place.  But hey, so what?  All you can do is beat the teams that get put in front of you, and the Mets are fortunate to be in the NL where they should waltz to the pennant.  Then they\'ll be fed to the lions in the World Series but at least you can say you were there.  They are quite reminiscient of last year\'s Seattle Seahawks, who got the top seed in a horrible NFC and made the Super Bowl before getting steamrolled by the AFC\'s lowest seeded playoff team.

A rules question
« Reply #211 on: June 29, 2006, 09:40:48 am »
While it seems everyone on .info was glued to Mets/Sox, in Coyoteland, Yanks/Braves was on the tube.  In Tuesday night\'s game ATL manager Bobby Cox used a double switch despite the fact the game was being played in the Bronx and thus by AL rules.  How is the double switch beneficial in an AL park?  I\'ve heard there are situations where the pitcher can be forced to bat even in the AL, but I don\'t understand how this works.  Was this one of those scenarios, or did Cox simply forget where he was?

BTW- A-Rod hit a walk off HR yesterday!

I didn\'t watch the game, but to answer your questions: The double switch has no benefit in the AL, but it\'s possible that the player who is DHing has to replace a position player in the field for one reason or another.  (Example: Late in the game you pinch run for a slow infielder who has reached base.  But your pinch runner is an outfielder and cannot replace the guy he ran for in the infield and you have no other infielders left on the bench.  If the guy you have DHing can play the infield, you can switch his position to infield, thereby giving up the DH and the pitcher will have to bat in the infielder\'s place in the order.)  This only happens maybe once per year per AL team, and usually someone pinch hits when the pitcher\'s spot comes up or the game is over by then.  Very, very rare that a pitcher actually comes to bat.  One famous incident of this was Roger Clemens (as a Red Sox) coming up at Fenway Park and ripping a single in his only at-bat ever at Fenway.  Also I think John Wetteland batted for the Yankees in the playoffs once.

Okay, I looked over the box score and this makes sense.  Andruw Jones started out as the DH, and moved to CF late in the game.  You might want to check that box score out.  ATL\'s is a mess, while Torre stuck with the same 9 he started with.  Great example of AL v NL contrast.

I will say this about last nights game, it is definately not the way I expected to end up.  I thought there would be a much bigger battle involved.  Honestly though, I was sad to see Pedro go but he had a tendency of doing shit like that in a few important high pressure games. IE Yankee stadium, it seemed he couldn\'t handle it, and he couldn\'t deal with pitching against his still good friends, and shit a catcher who caught him for years, You could see it when Ortiz lined it back up and Pedro had no idea what to do with the ball.  I honestly kinda felt bad for him esp after that Homer as the crowd was chanting "Peeeedro Peeedro"

but tonight shoud be a good matchup between two seasoned pitchers, with no emotional attachment

if the Red Sox are gonna continue to not lose, could they at least make the games closer so I can get some fantasy stats from Paplebon this week?

6/29/06 Red Sox 4, Mets 2.  Sox win 12th straight.

What a gorgeous game tonight.  The Sox beat the NL team at their own game.  How about that bunt single > stolen base > sac bunt > sac fly for the go-ahead run in the 7th?  Beautiful.  How about 7 innings of great starting pitching from Schilling, then 2 sit-em-down innings to finish from Timlin and Papelbon.  Textbook.  And a plays-of-the-week-lock layout by Crisp.  Also have to love Ortiz\' "F-U Beltran" homerun, hit to the same part of the park but 10 rows deeper.

Mets: Go back to playing your crappy division in your crappy league in your crappy stadium.  You are not ready for the Big Dogs.  Not even close.  Go home.

The 2006 New York Mets: The Most Over-Hyped Team Ever.  And if you try to say that they\'re actually good and not overhyped, that only further proves my point that they are overhyped.  How can I think so illogically?  Because I\'m a clown-shoe wearing tool from upstate New York.  That\'s how. rotfl rotfl rotfl Thank you thank you I\'ll be here all season :)

The 1000th show was overhyped.......

The mets are NOT.

they just had a bad series.

They were the only team in the majors who had not been swept or even lost 3 in a row till this series.

It was bound to happen eventually.

And it happened to a great team who is on a huge winning streak and playing perfect baseball.

Sox got swept by the twins and lost 3 games in a row two other times this year.

I\'d like to see the sox come to shea when the mets are on a 10 game win streak and see what happens.

So this series really means close to NOTHING unless of course your a cocky bozo masshole red sox goon (i.e. wolfgirl)

Something about the annual baseball thread always brings out the wolf in you.

Thus far, your seasonal Yankees commentary has been very tame.

That never stops the carnivore from "kicking em while they\'re down".

It will only be a matter of time before some Yankees/Red Sox antagonizing occurs.

As silly as much of it may be, I get a kick out of the tempers that flare over baseball each year.

try not to suck your own dick when you\'re done.  i\'ve seen plenty better and more brief ownings in my days here.  that lacked originality and the emboldened font only makes it less believeable.  that being said, klout is a tool.
