before i argue a couple points, i just want to make sure it\'s clear that this is nothing more/nothing less than a good argument.. just don\'t want anyone to take anything personally here..
now, to your points, mike:
a) completely agree that the rips are of inferior quality to the actual cd. but by that token, then i shouldn\'t put this cd (or any other, for that matter) on my ipod.. what i\'m saying is, i\'m going to be listening to mp3 versions of this cd even AFTER it comes out, so this sound quality thing isn\'t really an issue here. if anything, it\'ll just make it more refreshing when i do get to pop the actual cd in. i\'m going to come back to this point later..
b) i\'m not going to have the cd on release day. i wanted the deluxe edition, so i ordered it from amazon, which was the cheapest i could find it at $45 (yes, i\'m actually electing to pay 3x more for this album than most people are). anyways, my amazon account says: Delivery estimate: May 16, 2006 - May 18, 2006. so while it does \'come out\' in 4 days, i\'m not gonna have it in my hands then.. so if i\'d waited until tuesday to download it, would that be ok in this regard?
so flea is frustrated that the album leaked, and is upset that people aren\'t hearing the album the way it was meant to be heard, which is a point you argued as well. while i\'d like to sympathize here (i mean, RHCP are my favorite band), i instead have to call a time out wait just a second! um... this is a band who recently made their entire catalog available on itunes, along with a pre-order for stadium arcadium on there as well!! i\'m sorry, but that right there completely negates anything the band has to say about hearing this the way it was meant to be heard! it actually makes the whole damn thing flea wrote quite laughable..
look, i think everyone should buy this album, and i also think if you download something and like it, you should purchase it. but as far as me, personally downloading something before i have the real thing (whether it\'s before the real thing comes out or not), i just don\'t see anything wrong with it, because of the points mentioned above..
oh by the way (no pun intended), vh1 is streaming the entire album, which is apparently legal, and yet probably not the way the band intended the album to be heard either.. :idunno:
