TB Samplers.. thoughts?
« on: May 28, 2005, 05:12:53 pm »
made a few discs to pass out to new friends at work. theyre big music fans, hit up many festivals and shows in the area, but have never even heard of The Breakfast. sooo, i made three samplers, let me know what you think and possible changes for future makes.

Disc 1
The Breakfast
~EPIC~
1.Rufus
2.Tribal Funk Affliction
3.The Grand Scheme Of Things
4.Mooboo\'s Voodoo (Episode 2)
5.Escher\'s Etchings
6.Language Of The Gods (filler--a live version fit perfect w/remaining time)

Disc 2
The Breakfast
"Bring The Funk"
1.Taboo Or Not Taboot
2.The Chase
3.Spunk
4.Sundance
5.Drums>
6.What The Funk
7.Mayfly Disarray
8.Beef Barley
9.Dig
10.SirPsycho Sexy

Disc 3
The Breakfast
"They Will Rock You"
1.Drunk Monk Bar
2.Doughboy
3.See The Light
4.Score
5.Gravity
6.Wake Up In A Coma
7.LDZ
8.Hard Luck Harry>
9.Message In A Bottle>
10.Hard Luck Harry
11.Question Mark And The Mind
12.Sleeping Beuaty
13.Food For Thought

i chose the best live version/sound quality/jams that fit all 3 categories as much as possible, i did use some studio versions which i know is breaking the rules but i had to (tunes like TFA, Mooboo\'s, Grand Scheme) so they got the point. im going to make a lot of copies and pass them out to people at shows in this area, im also gonna bring a batch to High Sierra and pass them out. so before i do that id like to consult with my fellow Breakfast Eaters and see if there is anything i absolutely should put on that isnt right now. please, give me your thoughts......... thanks.

by the way, all discs run at around 78 minutes total. i made sure to maximize the open space.

Throw in a 1.5 minute Son of Simpleton to close one of the disks with remaining space.

Hope the disks get a great reception from all the newbs.

Breakfast Strategy but, I will take the BJ too.

People gotta see the Breakfast at this festival or it will be a failure. I mean people really have to be told to see the Breakfast at this festival.

This event obviously has the potential of being a major success for the band.  Good thinking on the promotional efforts to boost attendance and draw in new fans.  Attendance was a little light on the swing through \'middle America" and we would love to see more packed houses on the next run.

whoa. was busy yesterday, didnt check the board. they call me Gordo -- the turkey jivin muff divin man -- here in chicago.. NO bj\'s from this cat.

dave-- buquebus wouldve gone on the EPIC most likely if it fit. it didnt, and i contemplated taking off a few songs on the other two discs to fit it, but after thinking i decided i couldnt throw on every mindblowing tune, this way whoever listens to these discs will later hear a Buquebus and think "holy shit, there\'s even more epic tunes?! yyyyyyyeeeeesssss....."

spacey-- i will PM in a moment. 10KL isnt looking so good, but im definitely gonna work at getting there as best i can. by the way, i raved about em on the 10KL board for a few days and people seemed intersted. there was some band called BUMP who posted on the board, after fans brought them (bump) up, and they were described as prog/funk/rock. they offered a free live sampler, i emailed them asking for a copy and put a note "hey people are saying youre prog/rock/funk. ive never heard ya but if thats your style you should hook up with the breakfast theyll be there and theyre fucking sick."  reply: yyyeah, we know all about the breakfast. we\'re gonna send you a sampler but please dont expect anything mind-blowing. ummm, hope to see you there.                          ha!

freddie-- what do you mean? send copies through IM? i dont know, not good with that kind of shit but if you send me your addy ill send you copies.

zurflu-- good call on the Son Of Simpleton. point me in the direction of a good 1.5 minute i can download off Llama.

i will find out shortly what the peeps at work think of these tunes so far..

post the dates that you took each song from. I think I\'m going to moe.down, so this would be good to continue there.

off the top of my head (*remember, for noobs not us, kind of):

Disc 1
The Breakfast
~EPIC~
1.Rufus -- Bona Fide
2.Tribal Funk Affliction -- Deuce
3.The Grand Scheme Of Things -- Real Radio
4.Mooboo\'s Voodoo (Episode 2) -- Deuce
5.Escher\'s Etchings -- 7.31.04 @ Baja Bash
6.Language Of The Gods -- 3.12.05 @ The Call

Disc 2
The Breakfast
"Bring The Funk"
1.Taboo Or Not Taboot -- Bona Fide
2.The Chase -- 7.31.04 @ Baja Bash
3.Spunk -- Bona Fide
4.Sundance -- 4.29.05 @ Lafayette
5.Drums>
6.What The Funk -- 3.12.05 @ The Call
7.Mayfly Disarray -- 4.29.05 @ Lafayette
8.Beef Barley -- 4.29.05 @ Lafayette
9.Dig -- 7.31.04 @ Baja Bash
10.SirPsycho Sexy 7.31.04 @ Baja Bash

Disc 3
The Breakfast
"They Will Rock You"
1.Drunk Monk Bar -- Bona Fide
2.Doughboy -- 7.31.04 @ Baja Bash
3.See The Light -- Deuce
4.Score -- Real Radio
5.Gravity -- 4.29.05 @ Lafayette
6.Wake Up In A Coma -- 7.31.04 @ Baja Bash
7.LDZ -- Deuce
8.Hard Luck Harry> -- 4.15.05 >
9.Message In A Bottle> -- 4.15.05 >
10.Hard Luck Harry -- 4.15.05 @ Cafe Zacquor
11.Question Mark And The Mind -- Deuce
12.Sleeping Beauty -- 4.29.05 @ Lafayette
13.Food For Thought -- Bona Fide

after typing i realized i was definitely biased as far as the Lafayette show goes, buuut if youve downloaded youll understand that it was fucking hot. i obviously wasnt at the Baja Bash but its one of my favorite shows and both 4.29.05 and 7.31.04 have excellent sound quality which played a major role. im going to make a switch though. taking out SirPsycho Sexy and throwing in the Earache My Eye from 3.4.05 ....   i know that it goes into May Fly so should i replace that one too?? have a seg? the thing is i considered the 3.4.05 May Fly originally but thought the Star Wars and Punky Reggae teases (from 4.29.05) might grab a noob very well. once again>> more thoughts?

oh, and if you didnt realize, Deuce/Bona/RR were mostly chosen for sound quality/tightness/vocal/horns(Score) purposes. thats why theyre so frequent. STL was especially chosen from Deuce b/c i like the UNinverted version much more. didnt go with studio Doughboy, Sleeping Beauty, Gravity versions b/c the jams i chose from them are waaay too good to pass by.

also just realized that the studio Garcian Fishbowl fits on ~EPIC~ in place of Language. yes or no?

Would have thought both Gravity and Score would go on the funk disc. Esp. Score.

I wouldn\'t replace Sir Psycho with Earache... no way.

Score-- definitely couldve been on funk.. but timing let it fit on the rock.

Gravity-- i think it fits the rock cd better, plus timing i guess, again. the jam isnt so funky to me.

no Earache for Sir Psycho? after i listened to the 3.4.05 version of Earache i thought that it should DEF replace Sir, but hey i like the opinion--- esp. w/a no way involved.
 >>>ill stay then. i like to live dangerously.

now when im playing Gravity in my head though, the verses are really funky. i guess i was just thinking about the ridiculous jams lately that have a more prog-rock feel to em.
