hackers didnt break in to steal people\'s identity, sony had the ps3 network set up to send your credit card #s and personal info unencrypted in the URLs while transferring them thru the service. there was no layer of security for your personal information beyond console\'s security that was designed to stop pirates from playing illegally downloaded games. when that was broken into the system was wide open. every video game console gets hacked eventually, so it was just a matter of time.

hackers found out about this several months ago and sony just tried to sue everyone they could and get restraining orders issued against ps3 hackers rather than fix the network.

sony reallly screwed up. now there are databases for sale online of ps3 network subscribers\' information  that contain all their info except for the 3 digit security code on the back of their cards. they have almost 80 million subscribers paying to use their network. there is no excuse to not be encrypting that info.

don;t blame the hackers, blame sony for being careless with your personal information. hacking and modifying electronics is huge right now with lots of tutorials on youtube that make it easy for anyone to do, but you dont see this kinf of thing happening with nintendo, xbox, iphone, etc.

Well Xbox Live hasn\'t had this type of trouble and is such a better community base than Sony\'s and Halo? come on there is soo much more than Halo.
