that setlist doesn\'t impress me that much.  but i will have to give it a listen when it comes my way.  Though, I always enjoy a good My Friend, My Friend.

Otherwise, any setlist with bouncing around the room gets a B- in my book without even listening to it.

this.

also what is that... 6 covers in one show?

I doubt I would have been very impressed unless that was one nasty mother of a Stash.

thanks Yoda!

Possum does pwn as a ser bustout.. but in 2010 it seemed like Phish thought this should be their most popular song or something.

Possums are best when you least expect them.

To be honest though, any show with a nice Stash or Melt that isn\'t a trainwreck otherwise, is a good show to me.

....

Then again, that was one of the lamest Stash(es) I\'ve ever heard.... after just listening to it. I think they need a coach to hype them up or something, like..

"okay guys, 2009 was a fair reintroduction, you\'re not all strung out now and you can actually play your songs again now, that was a good start. 2010, you tried jamming again here and there, and a few times it actually worked! So, 2011, we\'re gonna bust it out. You can play your songs, you know you can jam, you just have to do two things at once!"

idk dude

idk dude Phish was by far my favorite band for like a decade and I think they sort of suck on average with a few good shows lately.. fair criticism from real Phish fans in this era is legit, I believe anyway

AM I SURE that I actually like Phish?  Is that what you ask me?
Well, let\'s begin with a tale of what fan, or excuse me, "phan" I am not.

I am not a fan that gets my panties wet EVERY time I see a set list.  I can give an opinionated statement that the setlist was fair, mediocre, great good, or absolutely fucking fantastic.

I am not a fan that goes to EVERY single show and proclaims it is the best show I have ever seen.  Nor do I download EVERY single show and proclaim its the best show I have heard and how I wish I was there.   Shows are good, or even great, but I probably saw the best show by Phish in my life in like 2000.

I am not a fan that feels the need to over enthusiastically shove them down everyone\'s throats, because I do understand there are other bands and music out there to be heard. Some bands even put on better concerts than phish on certain nights. *gasp* did I just say that?

I am a fan that appreciates the music and the band.

I am a fan that in my years following the band, I have grown in my understanding and likes of their music.

I am a fan that realizes the best years of Phish are most likely behind us and this resurgence in the last few years, even though a great time, sometimes musically is just great.  Not the fucking fantastic.   Yes, there are some nights that i hear a recording, and I go, "Holy shit".  But they are sometimes far apart.  Maybe I was influenced by a shit load of drugs back in the day, but to me almost every night or every other night was put forth with such enthusiasm and incredible musical prowess.

As for first night Bethel, MEH.  that\'s what kind of fan I am.
I mean, I wasn\'t there in person to "take it all in".  So, who knows, maybe some magical mysteriness was in air and it really was "the best show ever".    But I didn\'t drink the kool-aid, sorry.

What songs would I have preferred you ask??

I don\'t know.  Nothing crazy.  It was already pointed out many covers were played. And yes, we all like Roses are Free.  But I feel like that has become almost a staple.  There are so many songs in the catalogue of their own they could reach out to.  Why do the same old covers, over and over again? Especially the first night of a big weekend.

So what songs would I like in a setlist??

Harry Hood, Cavern, Split Open and Melt, Esther (my fav song off of Junta I never get to hear live and in person), Basically anything off of Junta - I\'ll take a Fee, Golgi Apparatus, Contact, Maze, Axila, Weigh, Scent of a Mule, The Curtain, Camel Walk, Weekapaug Groove....... I really could go on and on.

When I made all those comments,  I hadn\'t even realized they also played my least favorite Phish song, Wading in the Velvet Sea.   To give a side story, to show how much I have grown as a fan, this was like my favorite song when I first got into them in 1999.  Now, that I am older and wiser, it really honestly makes me go blah.   If I want to hear a lovey ballad, I would prefer a Fast Enough for You or Waste or If I could.

tuna, i completely agree. *high five*

Second Night Setlist:

Set One: Theme From the Bottom, NICU, Cities, Halley\'s Comet > Runaway Jim, Gumbo > The Mighty Quinn (Quinn The Eskimo) > Limb by Limb, Horn, Bathtub Gin^

Set Two: Down with Disease > Free, Backwards Down The Number Line > Makisupa Policeman^^ -> Harry Hood > Cavern > David Bowie

^contained Mateca teases and quotes
^^With lyrics referencing several band members\' houses (and Trey\'s favorite show, House).

IMO- Waaaaay Better than First Night.  But have to give it an actual listen....

In fairness, though, your "is this a bad time to ask for my dress back?" comment is currently my favorite for Post of the Year and possibly funniest post in .info history.  Loved it!

how can you judge an almost 3 hr show, by a 4 minute song? your telling  that those 4 minutes of meh completely devalues the other 176 minutes of music they played.  seems a bit irrational if you ask me.

Also, who complains about how many covers they play?? They\'ve done that their entire career. Seems to me that there\'s a bunch of jaded "phans" that will find any excuse to bitch.  Get over it.

I completely agree here... bouncing around the room is old school and Im sure they love it. Also, it provides a good moment of happiness for people who may be a liitle too fucked up and not gettin into the music that much. Multiple times I\'ve witnessed that song bring smiles to people\'s faces, so if you hate it that much go take a piss brah.

TO even try and judge a show from looking at a setlist is proposterous. A show with huge classics and intense bust-outs could suck ten times more than one with 10 covers and no bust-outs. To me, its all about the energy inside the show, the quality and execution of the jams, and the overall experience you obtain. Sitting on a computer looking at the setlist and saying it automatically gets a b- for containing bouncing is retarted.

I think tweezer> my friend looks balling. Im gonna download this and listen to this now while my brain recovers from camp keewanee. Save the judgements for the shows youve been too
