sofahkin\' owned!

as much as i feel for the band being in debt.  what percentage of breakfast fans are still paying off college loans at over 30K?  what percentage of the rest of us are always in debt in some form or another?  we\'re all in the hole, and we\'ve been managing to pay to travel to see the band and buy tix and what have you.  i don\'t expect a check to arrive in the mail anytime soon to help me out of the hole.

Exactly, besides student loans....how about a mortgage (still owe like $230,000 on this lovely home....), car payments (still owe like $10,000 on the jeep), wedding (paying off $10,000 credit union loan hopefully as soon as people hand me envelopes)?   I am in debt up to my eyeballs right now and no one is bailing me out except me, myself, and I...and that man that lives with me who I see occassionally and works a lot.

I think everyone at our age is in huge debt. if you aren\'t, then god fucking bless.

Donations aren\'t the key.   Its promotion and getting new people at shows, solo gigs, whatever. Selling out local shows.

We Have A Real Debate Going On Here!
The Band Members Should Let Us Know What They Would Like To Be Done.
It\'s Their Band & They Should Have The Final Word On This Issue!

I agree, even if we tried donations that will only go so far......we need to help promote the band as much as possible, plant the seed that is the breakfast and do what we can to make it grow.

It is their band.

They should be doing something.

The success and failure of this band is ultimately on their shoulders.

I have my own issues and challenges to deal with.

It is not my responsibility to make sure this band succeeds.

It is theirs.

When the lack of care and enthusiasm is shown at the top it shows at the bottom.

And then people wonder why in CT they can\'t get people off their message board to attend shows.
Love many, trust few and don\'t be late.

Donations could have been set up, still could. Although I have less time and resources available currently than I did when I suggested the idea. Nobody contacted me to get it done though, and I doubt Dave wants to put any effort into adding a module to the site at the moment.

So I guess I\'ll just keep going to shows and encouraging others to come along for now.

Spacey is mostly right, although I do put a great deal of the blame on the musical ignorance of the masses. The fact is the majority of people simply don\'t enjoy maxed-out instrumentation ... in other words The Breakfast\'s music simply isn\'t easy to listen to for the average idiot. I\'m sure it took many of the fans here several shows before it really clicked. But once you get it... boy do you fuckin get it. These guys are musical geniuses. Unfortunately for the state of humanity, Lil\' Wayne has probably 50,000x as many people in his fanbase.

No doubt if everyone grew up listening to Phish, Zappa, Dead, etc the band would be highly successful. Yet we are a minority in this society. And it doesn\'t help that fans of those bands are mostly unaware of the existence of The Breakfast.

It\'s definitely a niche audience that can even tolerate The Breakfast, let alone become so absorbed and in tune with the music that it rocks our souls. A tough sell, indeed. I\'m just glad they haven\'t sold out one single bit.

Besides, just think about how many people have made donations to dave on .info in the past year, and how much has it helped this site out?! :duck:

that would be zero, so seriously get a fucking clue before you open your mouth about shit you know nothing about.

not at all ken.
well,i dont know actually.
the only thing i have to say about this is..most of us arent in any sorta financial situation to be giving money for jackshit..some of us have kids to worry about.
the reason the band is in the situation they are in is a wicked combination of bad luck, horrific decision-making and pure laziness..

It really didn\'t take listening to the band a few times in order to hook me. That first time at Club Caroline I knew it would be a lifelong love. I think you either appreciate their talent or you don\'t, or cannot for some reason identify with jamming.

I\'m happy to say that I\'ll be seeing them play out at least 4-5 in the next month. Sometimes you have to say, (and this is urged with special caution, imho) "Fuck National Grid, I need me some Breakfast this month!"

People can\'t give what they don\'t have. That\'s O.K.

I\'m still not sure about mistakes we make in life.
What we think are our mistakes, may be just our learning and growth process in life.
We dwell on what we think we did wrong, but on some other level maybe it wasn\'t a mistake.
Life isn\'t so cut and dry.
Will everything go smoothly along in life all the time?
If it did, there would be no personal growth.
The Breakfast like anything else in life, involves choices and errors.
You people are always dwelling on the past and how it was and how it should be.
You\'re missing the present!
The music has a great maturity to it now, which only came about due to the
life process behind it.
If everything was sweet and cozy along the way,the musicians wouldn\'t have
developed into what is happening on stage today.
Our material stability in life doesn\'t really mean much as to who we are as human beings.
The Breakfast musicians were NEVER lazy!
They always worked hard and played hard all along the way.
This quality will always be their success as musicians!
