I guess that song Mirrors is like a n00b favorite or w/e but I have to admit I like it. Thanks Zuke :P

glad you like it. i didn\'t like it much at first and ragged on nicknels because he liked it immediately. it\'s grown on me too. when i get a few free moments i\'ll search archive.org and find some barber shredding circa \'98 so you can see what he\'s capable of (and then become frustrated with what he does now lol)

oh and check out this show for the song within the context of a live setting. mirrors -> basis for a day is pretty tight (new school -> old school)

I will defer the credit one more time.  Julianna got me into Mirrors.  Didn\'t really like it first couple listens, but the 6/5/09 version -> Crickets sold me.  Way to go Ulee!

Is this supposed to be good?
\'cause I feel like I wasted the past hour or so.
I really really tried.
I actually listened to the whole thing painful as it was at times.

Wow they are incredibly repetitive and boring.
I must say the shit I used to hear from them makes me think they used to be pretty fucking good and I should check some of that out again but this shit sucks for me.

Oh and I don\'t think I\'ll ever complain about The Breakfast\'s vocals again after hearing this caterwauling.
Worrying is like praying for something you don't want.

For new stuff I would start with 6/5/09 (Bascially Vassillios and on and especially the jam into Gangster) then I would check out 6/27/09 set II

exactly why i\'m loving me some biscuits right now

Let’s get things straight. The Disco Biscuits is not a jam band.

According to Jon Gutwillig, guitarist for the band, “super jam band” is the label they prefer. For those not in the know, the term “jam band” refers to bands that improvise and have “jam sessions” onstage.

“The jam bands are kind of like the old school dudes like Phish and Widespread Panic, The Allman Brothers – just anyone who isn’t really computer savvy in their musical way.”

Gutwillig describes super jam bands as a “new world of jam bands.” He says the bands are more electronic, and lists The Disco Biscuits, Sound Tribe Sector 9, as well as other up-and-coming artists as bands that have spearheaded the genre.

“People would say, ‘Are you a jam band?’ and we would say, ‘Well, maybe.’ And that just pisses everybody off,” Gutwillig said. “So what we had to do was reclassify the music business, just like they reclassified alternative rock from normal rock.”

The Biscuits still jam – just with the art of technology such as computers, and now, inspiration from drum and bass-influenced dubsteps. In fact, Gutwillig says the jam sessions are what set The Disco Biscuits apart from other bands.

“I feel that, during those improv sessions, that we’re really connecting with the audience,” he says. “We’ve been putting in a lot of new stuff and it sort of creates a new relationship with you and the audience.”

Though jam bands – and super jam bands – typically draw their influences from a multitude of genres, Gutwillig says he only listens to “sexy music.”

“I try to focus on sexy music. I don’t listen to nerdy music as much as I used to when I was a nerd,” he said.

When asked what he thinks “nerdy” music is, Gutwillig immediately responded with “Rush.”

“I think they’re the top of the list, I think they’re the universal poster boys for nerdy,” Gutwillig said. “Devo, you know, Devo’s really nerdy…would I ever listen to Devo on purpose? No.”

For those unsure of how to classify the nerdy from the sexy, Gutwillig has a system. Though be warned, the system is not quite fool-proof.

“The main indicator is, put a bunch of girls in a room and put the song on and see what they do,” said Gutwillig, who also mentioned that “11 out of 10” guys are not capable of being indicators for what’s sexy. “I think most [girls] have pretty intrinsic knowledge of what’s sexy and what’s not sexy…They can’t even tell you it; you can just kind of tell by the way they move.”
This theory can be easily tested by putting 10 girls in a room and turning on some music. However, the experiment is not perfect, as there are some road blocks.

“If you put 10 girls in a room and they are actually not on their cell phones…now we’re talking about something that’s just impossible. So you put 10 girls in a room and you eliminate the ones that are typing with their thumbs, basically, with the remaining ones, you would want all of them to be dancing.”

And that’s how you know it’s sexy.

LO-fucking-L !!

"We\'re not a jam band like Phish we\'re a super jam band"

I\'m sorry but if you compare yourself to Phish and put the word "super" in front of yourself in comparison you\'re a real d-bag.

Sorry. Computers doesn\'t make it "super". Mastering your instruments so you don\'t need to lean on computers to fill out your repetitive sound makes it "super".

Seriously that\'s some cocky bullshit right there. "Electronic Jam-Pop" sounds more appropriate to me.

That the guy would even talk down on Phish like that and say they\'re "super" in comparison = complete loss of respect...

Thank the Lord for The Breakfast if this computerized techno "jam"-shit is the "new world of jam bands"!

Agreed... didnt Brownstein have a show on Sirius or XM call Jam-tronica at one point in time?  Seems to me like that would be the best label or something of that nature.  Super jamband just sounds super arrogant to me.  I guess its all in the choice of words but I think there are plenty of other adjectives that could have been used to accurately describe thier style a bit more concisely.

I\'m not hatin on these guys... just an outsider lookin on really.  I\'ve listened to them enough that I have an opinion and they don\'t really do it for me.  Notice I don\'t take every oppurtunity to say something negative or really comment at all on this matter, but I think that article was a pretty bold statement. Thats all...
