Freddie - You don\'t think I know what I did, that you feel the need to constantly bring it up.  But that\'s between Dave and I and no one else; I really don\'t need to explain myself to you.  And basically that\'s personal shit that has nothing to do with the band and my comments.

To explain myself.  I found a higher priority in spending time with my wife and now daughter.  Did I miss seeing the band, yes, but I wouldn\'t trade any of it to follow the band around like I did 99-01.  Sorry.

Why not let the past be the past, especially someone else\'s past that had nothing to do with you.  No hard feelings, but in your words, those are "my words/beliefs".

weird night all around, but a solid show

LOTS of regulars missing from action, but there were a lot of younger new kids there

support for the band is missing from the people youd expect to be there and instead its coming from a new crop

honestly, thats not all that bad of a thing...like wah said you cannot expect the original crop to continue to go to shows anymore when they are now pushing 30 and have families

good performance considering the miserable crowd (if you can even call it that).

i thought i just did.

oooh, about the lack of crowd support?  we all know about it, we all see it, yet it always has to get pointed out. we know people don\'t come out like they should or used to in general, i don\'t expect it, and i don\'t think anyone else does.  justin had a great point, though i hate "festies," they need to play them, as many as they can, because that way people are forced to see this truly incredible band.  it\'s a shame.  maybe they need to, as much as it would hurt us, re-locate to a place where people aren\'t miserable fucks, like the midwest or cali or something, anything\'s better than wasting away here on the shitty mostly miserable, eternally pessimistic east coast, they deserve better, they are better. better than most.

sorry.

Looks like a very ser set ( Rush cover= the Heat I\'m sure ) and over 300 paid?
That is a great fucking night for this band and if you think not you expect way too much.

That is definitely NOT an acceptable number for this band at Toads Place. Call a spade a spade. 500 should be the standard and to be honest.. 10 years in I expect even more.
That being said the played brilliantly and vocally have never sounded better.
IMO they should limit CT appearance to 4 per year..period..maye then folks woud take these shows more seriously.

agreed! Colorado or Cali is calling for this band!! They do NEED to play fests as much as possible.. the problem.. their crowds are shrinking at clubs and their agency ..excuse my harshness.. BLOWS!

Why would you expect a bigger crowd? They have a poor record at Toad\'s and I am sure that being a holiday weekend a bunch of kids may be at home away from New Haven.
300 paid without a built in crowd is great.

You would expect more and as luck has it you are probably one of the few people that can do something about it. Please do.

Yeah play CT. 4 times a year for an extra 200 or so people for those shows. What?

leith,300 in a room that holds about 1000,especially when folks are probably rather scattered about, looks bad.i figured youd know this much,
also, dont u think if kroop could do something about it he would?i remember the good old days of flyering the schnot outta shows,in an attempt to bring folks to toads.i been outta the mix but can guarantee that since kroop left the band these fundamental attempts to promote shows left with him.

I do think they play CT way to much though. Guess they gotta make their dough though.

Truth.  I can\'t take every weekend off 4 weeks in a row to see all the shows that are within driving distance of here.

Yes, unfortunately some people work jobs.  Often, on the weekends. Especially nights.  Fart.

Dude you have to throw out the room holds 1000. The Breakfast have never had that there. You have to base figures on their actual draw there. Since I have been following them I have understood that a really good show there was near 350-400 with all things falling into place. Fuck they only had 600 or so for their 1000th show and that was promoted like crazy. Let\'s be real and not expect so much from them. They have little to no management and still somehow brought in 300+ and from reading this thread a bunch of "regulars" did not even go. That says a lot if you stop and think about it.

You need to realize they have begun all over again and hopefully they will realize they can\'t afford to do it in CT. this time around.

Is it possible that the New Haven music scene is going through one of it\'s down cycles that it seems to go through every 10-15 years?

We all want success for this band, so let\'s not squabble over head counts and enjoy the music.  I\'m thinking that 300+ heads is pretty good; especially when in the past, there have been comments that 100+ people in a dive are really good.  I remember seeing them at (I think) the New Haven Palace opening up for DBB and there were maybe 50-75 people there and it really didn\'t matter because it was great to see them at such a venue.

Everybody from the band, to the fans, to the management, to the scene can point there finger at why there are the number of heads that they want to see.  I think that we should enjoy the music, whether it be going to see all the shows, some of the shows, 1 show, no shows and listening to the music that Dave, Fitz and the other tapers make available and the recorded albums.  Enjoy the music any way that you can, that\'s all.
