2008
1. noho HLH
2. UTiCA SyN
those two are EPIC and a flip flop reversable tie but with a slight edge to the HLH because its more diverse.
I would probably put kinetic queeb at #3 for the year but its not in the same leauge. its one of the best ever recorded but the unheard upstate versions kinda trump it even though they don\'t count. they were just more experimental. plus the jam is split in two parts so it cant compare fairly with the top 2 straight up jams even though both jam sections of the queeb are fantastic.
there is quite a few jams that are just a notch below these that are hard to sort out.
there are also some sleeper jams out there I have to listen to a few more times that rival the top 3.
keep listening to the syn tho if your not convinced yet. It\'s not your average jam but man its so fuckin tasteful. the one repeating riff by timmy reminds me of the creation of the universe or something equally epic that I cant quite put my finger on in my subconscious primal archetypal awareness. you can hear the crowd just start coo\'ing when he lights it up after the take down around the 11 minute mark. seriously, listen to it again. its not as balls to the walls as noho hlh but its just as good. guaranteed to go down in history as one of the best jams ever by this band.
gladys is overated in general and so is the utica version. It\'s more or less standard for the first jam section then there is a quick take down and a long weird bass solo->hard edged but kinda meh peak out. its unique but really nothing epic. It was amazing live tho! and still a classic and always very fun tune, but still overated.
Just for comparisons sake I think the DS-SO is not as good as noho HLH and smashes the utica syn in a cage match but the syn is on a different wave length. the 07 utica mayfly is def out there too but there is a lot of really out there mayflys. The jam is not nearly as focused and driven and doesn\'t really hold a candle to the HLH, SO, or the SYN in my book.
