viva la evolution

Medeski Martin & Wood are planning 3 tours, plus 3 albums in 2008. Each tour and subsequent album will consist of all NEW MUSIC. The plan: Write > Tour > Record > Repeat. Bucking the traditional process of recording an album, THEN touring after its release. The band feels this new approach for 2008 will lend itself to their way of performing and developing music. On Feb. 14, MMW will get together for 5 days to write new material for their Northeast tour, Feb. 19 - 29. Directly following the tour they will head into the studio to record the music developed on the road. Each body of new material will be unique to each tour (if you see it in New York, you won\'t see it in Los Angeles). Some of the material may make it into the band\'s festival sets, but the bulk of it will only be performed during the specified tour period. Please come celebrate. Watch the music evolve, and be part of something different!

Information coming on how to obtain all 3 recordings in a signed, limited edition, eco package.

I know there are at least a few MMW fans on here. So, I\'ll keep this updated with links to their shows as well as album information.

I caught them in Ithaca last night (friend won tix from a radio station) and it was incredible. Their first batch of songs is really impressive. Wood added what appeared to be an acoustic/electric bass to his collection. I always prefer him on the upright bass but he can really rip up this new bass of his. Medeski was holding it down all night especially with his hand-held wind piano (no clue what it\'s really called). Martin spent a decent amount of time outside of his drum kit but still managed to keep things in control with other various instruments. At one point in the second set they all came front and center; Martin and Medeski both had tall congas and Wood was playing two smaller drums on a stand. I\'ve seen them 25-30 time before but never saw them do something like this. The crowd was very attentive throughout the night so maybe that had something to do with it. When they came back out for the encore Medeski told the crowd they would take a request. Everyone pretty much yelled out something so after a couple other tries they decided on Bubblehouse. Unfortunately, my yells for Chubb Subb went unheard.

I\'ve listened to the 21st, 22nd and 24th so far and last night blew them away. I\'d suggest downloading it when it becomes available.
