So I\'m starting to plann a vacation, and this was one of the ideas that we were thinking about.  Has anybody ever been on this, and if so, how was it?

Ya, i\'ve been looking into it more and it does sell out very fast, but I can\'t believe how $$ it is.  Not sure if it\'s gonna happen anymore, but maybe.

Yeah, Jamcruise is not exactly for the college kids who wash dishes or sell eighths to pay for showgoing.  With all of the 1990s Phish fans (jam-fan boom) hitting their 30s or 40s, there\'s a lot of money in the scene.  A lot of heads make six figures these days and can drop 5K for a cruise without any financial concerns.  Jamcruise works because enough of these people exist.  But hey, if you can pull it off, it\'s that much more significant for you than them.

I totally feel your position weekapaug, having just been through a very similar major-event vacation.  I stretched some for the Super Bowl and it was the right move.  Absolutely worth all the work.  The more you think about whether to do it, the more you\'ll talk yourself out of it.  To get it done is a simple 2-step process: First, you have to look in the mirror and ask yourself, "Does this really matter to me?  Do I really love this music?  Is jamcruise something that I fundamentally want to get done in my life?"  If you answer yes to all three, then stop thinking immediately, call your travel buddy, and just get it done.  It\'s the only way.  I hope you go!

What Robyn was getting at is the fact that we answered all three of Seth\'s questions "yes" and bought our tickets. Then she found out that if we were to go she would basically loose her job. We ended up selling our cabin and have no hopes of going on a future version unless they change the date. :thumbsdow :thumbsdow

thanks for the advice!  I\'ve actually been saving up specifically for a vacation (and I\'ve always wanted to go on a cruise), but after airfare to get down there, were looking at about 1500-1600 + money spent down there.  That\'s a lot just for a cruise, but I hear it\'s well worth it.

I did one of the Jamcruises. I had a fantastic time. I hate to say it, but the fact that it is expensive keeps away a lot of undesirable characters, which is nice. Like any cruise, the cabins are tiny tiny, but how much time are you going to spend in them anyhow? My only criticism was that the place we stopped in the Bahamas was pretty cheesy/too touristy, and we didn\'t have much time there. I had a couple of rum punches, took a quick dip in the ocean, and then it was pretty much time to get back on the boat. I have heard, however, that they have rectified this situation over the past couple of years.

The vibe was very laid back and comfortable, and everyone was really friendly. Definitely a great, relaxing vacation packed with good music. The year I went had a bunch of great artists... Garaj Mahal, ARU, Tony rice and Peter Rowan, and UM were my highlights, along with a "jazz jam" that was a compilation of the best (in my opinion) artists on the boat.

It was fun getting to meet a bunch of the people on the boat. I had a really nice conversation with Kai from GM, Jimmy Herring, and Oteil, along with a few other people. Some of the artists, however, seemed pretty irritated that they were stuck on the boat with a bunch of people who didn\'t want to leave them alone. Fishman seemed like he REALLY didn\'t want to be there.

I would definitely suggest going if you have the money. Though I wouldn\'t go again (there are too many places I want to see for me to spend more vacation time on something like this), it was defintiely a great experience.
