I did one of the Jamcruises. I had a fantastic time. I hate to say it, but the fact that it is expensive keeps away a lot of undesirable characters, which is nice. Like any cruise, the cabins are tiny tiny, but how much time are you going to spend in them anyhow? My only criticism was that the place we stopped in the Bahamas was pretty cheesy/too touristy, and we didn\'t have much time there. I had a couple of rum punches, took a quick dip in the ocean, and then it was pretty much time to get back on the boat. I have heard, however, that they have rectified this situation over the past couple of years.
The vibe was very laid back and comfortable, and everyone was really friendly. Definitely a great, relaxing vacation packed with good music. The year I went had a bunch of great artists... Garaj Mahal, ARU, Tony rice and Peter Rowan, and UM were my highlights, along with a "jazz jam" that was a compilation of the best (in my opinion) artists on the boat.
It was fun getting to meet a bunch of the people on the boat. I had a really nice conversation with Kai from GM, Jimmy Herring, and Oteil, along with a few other people. Some of the artists, however, seemed pretty irritated that they were stuck on the boat with a bunch of people who didn\'t want to leave them alone. Fishman seemed like he REALLY didn\'t want to be there.
I would definitely suggest going if you have the money. Though I wouldn\'t go again (there are too many places I want to see for me to spend more vacation time on something like this), it was defintiely a great experience.
