Besides the composed big band sections, Grand Wazoo is very loosely structured.  God I wish Zappa recorded more big band stuff from that period. It\'s beyond me why so many hardcore Zappa fans immensly dislike that period, yet fall over ga ga for the Flo and Eddie period.

I love the waka jawaka/grand wazoo period. He wrote those albums while he had a broken neck and was in a wheelchair if I\'m not mistaken.

Yes he did and it was his most brilliant work up to that point.  If only he broke his sternum in the mid 80\'s.....

Then hopefully they would\'ve caught his prostate cancer. :(

Treychica, (and any other zappa freaks) what is your favorite Zappa period, and what albums does that period include? Just curious.

I don\'t know... I think it has a much more polished sound than W/J... which is why I don\'t like it as much as the latter.

im with you 100% on this! i love this set of albums both individually and as a whole.

i have been listening to over-nite sensation a lot the past few months. it is far from his best work as a musician though.
