Here is some really good advice IMHO.
As soon as you can you NEED to know how to work the system. When I went to college they never really explained how to work the bureaucracy of the college or university. This is one of the most important things that will lead to great success and reduced stress.
Find out about how your college handles the following:
Early Drop dates for classes. (what date you can drop a class and not be penalized)
Auditing classes. (sitting in on profs and classes to see if it suits you and/or your class load)
Pass / Fail. (more important in later college years but very good to know. Which classes will allow it etc)
Also Just because a class says it is full does not mean that it is really full. If you need to get a class go talk to the professor. A lot of times they will place your name on the list and if they have a few people who drop or never show up they will let you in. Also if you show enough initiative that is usually all it will take to get you in. Professors tend to cut upperclassman more slakc when it comes to needing classes but work your magic.
ALSO NEVER SCHEDULE A CLASS BEFORE 9AM IF YOU CAN!!!!!
ALSO find out what the big party nights are in and around campus and try to not schedule classes early the next day.
If professors ask for volunteers to do projects and research do it. I ended up doing just that and got 3 additional credits by helping a Doctorate student run a research project. I played rap music and showed porn for college credits. Also the networking with professors is huge. They will hook you up with letters of recommendations for jobs and/or other classes if you might need them. Plus if they are in your major they may be teaching a class you will need later on down the road. Always helps to have connections
