Residences at Ninth Square
« on: October 19, 2006, 01:18:35 pm »
Now, before i begin this, i want to say....I loved living in downtown new haven.  I miss it at times, and then other times when i am about to fall asleep on a thursday night, I am SOOOO HAPPY i don\'t live near Gotham Citi anymore.  Let\'s just say, Thursday nights were painful experiences for sleep patterns.

But I want to give warnings to everyone who does look into this.  The company, Residences at Ninth Square, has AWESOME locations on Orange Street.  I lived at 44 Orange above the Royal Palace, JK Hair Art, across from Miso, around the corner from other amazing resturants (Kudeta, being one).  You can walk anywhere, not worry of the parking.  (so miss the daily walks to OOlong Tea Bar!)   (And no I am not paid by the city of new haven for tourism!)

However, the noise factor, horrible.  And its just not club noise.  That i knew i was getting myself into.  50% of the building was state aid.  The other 50% yale students, young professionals.   Not that I am trying to be judgemental, but I can kind of tell the difference.  Noise in the hallways, blunt guts on the stairwell, smoke alarm going off every month because somebody doesnt know how to blow smoke out a window, beer spilled in the elevator, drug deals in the lobby (and I am not talking ****, lets try crack).   ANd this was a NICE BUILDING.   Rent is $1500.  (split between my best girl and I....not too bad)  It was a real shame for the working class kids living there like us.  No matter how much we complained, the office never listened.   I just felt for the money were spending that I could walk into the lobby (which has a 24 hour doorman) and feel like i wasnt going to get mugged and have it at least not wreaking of urine.

Besides that, I would still recommend the place if it wasnt for the fact after we moved out, it took 2 months to get our security deposit.  We just got it finally because I think they were tired of seeing my face.  So Renters, be weary.

 yeah, living in Downtown......$$$$$$.  I LOVE MISO!!!
But I did save lots of dinero on parking.  My garage was right there.

If you haven\'t been to Kudeta yet, CHECK IT OUT!  Its across from Amalfi Grille.   Slightly pricey, but everytime we go the meal is beyond yummy.  Its Japanese with a twist.  And surprisingly, they have thee best mojitos....

Oh, and the indian place they just put in across from Miso....Thali.  Wasn\'t too bad.....

Kudeta is god awful. Went there last Friday and has all of 2 bites of soup and trooped it to Louie\'s and got a burger while the rest ate. Yea, all I ordered was soup, but it tasted like Long Island Sound (which I believe it may have been, do yourself a favor and dont order the hot and sour seafood somethingorother). I tryed the crag rangoons, nothing special. I tryed the miso soup, tasted like vomit. The only thing that was good that I tryed was the orange chicken, but I could get that for $12 less at China Star on Main Street. I\'m sure they have some good stuff, but from my first and last experience there, I\'d go somewhere else. Just my opinion though.

It is pricey.   The orange chicken is awesome.  I tend to stick the fish there, tho.   Cooked and Raw.    Lemon Sea Scallops....mmmmm....

Another great place downtown.....close to where i lived.  Bentara.   It\'s Malaysian.  Get the Ayam Percik,  its grilled chicken with this lime and coconut sauce....

In my opinion the most overpriced and not worth it resturant in all of downtown, Zinc.   I took my best friend there for her birthday.  The portions were laughable.

I looooove Roomba!!  I love any kind of Central American/South American Cousine.    But i really think you need to go in the summer for the ambiance of the outside courtyard.  I love those cobblestone paths along that part of Chapel.  (I really think New Haven should hire me as their great promoter) Some places are better during certain seasons.  Like scoozi.  I love dinners in the summer outside there too!

You know whats fairly good but alot of people overlook, Nikita\'s...it isnt that bad for a quick meal before a night of drinking.  They have a decent variety for vegetarians.  (one of my best girls is one, so im always thinking ahead)

The only place i never got to venture to while living there was soul de cuba.  they had weird hours, and were always packed.   But i heard the food is damn tasty.

Yeah, we did get off track! But thats okay!!!   Oh, the best highlight of living downtown, a moment that forever will be in my mind....the day we moved in last summer was the day Blues Traveler did the free concert....i can remember that first night sitting in our living room with the windows open hearing the show like it was in our apartment, eatting royal palace from the cartons and drinking a glass of pinot grigio.  Its a classic moment my best friend and i will never forget.

I\'m with ant. I\'ve never been to half these places, but you would most likely find me over on wooster st or down by bar/louie\'s.

mmmmm... I\'m hungry now after reading this thread.
