Beats and Biscuits at Camp Bisco VI
Once again an annual event, the Disco Biscuits’ Camp Bisco festival relocated to Mariaville, NY for its sixth installment and most electronica-heavy yet. As promised, not only did the Disco Biscuits deliver a bonus set for early arrivals Thursday night, but the quartet offered a surprise set Friday after traffic prevented Simon Posford from arriving onsite in time for his set with the New Originals (bringing the Disco Biscuits’ grand total up to six sets). While Camp Bisco VI featured a number of jamband heavyweights, including Umphrey’s McGee, The Breakfast and Bustle In Your Hedgerow, the festival distinguished itself by presenting electronica and dance groups like Infected ********, Girl Talk, the Juan McLean, King Britt, Orchard Lounge and OTT. Once he arrived onsite, Posford performed in a number of configurations, spinning material from his Shpongle project, joining the Disco Biscuits and STS9 drummer Zach Velmer for a version of Conspirator’s “Orch Theme” and offering the first North American performance by his lauded Hallucinogen and Dub project. Zilla, EOTO, STS9 (who performed both full band and Live PA sets), Digital Frontier, Grimace Federation, The Join and Future Rock helped bridge the gap between Camp Bisco’s electronica and jam styles. Lyrics Born and Slick Rick featuring the Adam Deitch Project also gave the festival some hip-hop flavor.
