1980 Miracle on Ice
« on: February 05, 2004, 07:28:00 pm »
Many of you probably were not born or were babies when the events in this movie happened. I was a ten year old boy enamored w/ the USA and all we stood for. The US Hockey Team\'s victory over the evil Empire and then to go on and win the Gold over Finland will forever be etched in my mind.

I can not believe it took this long but finally Disney has produced a Wonderful film about this glorious event in our Country\'s sports history. No matter how I feel now I will always remember growing up w/ the USSR and wanting to beat those damn cheatin\' commies @ everything!!! Ahhhh for the days when the enemy was obvious and I was oblivious.

Anyway, it\'s a good movie (saw the "sneak preview") and I highly recommend it.

Tiedyetoga, just for the mindset of the country @ the time you will enjoy this movie :)

After you see it. Post and tell me how real the ice scenes are. I think this movie has some of the most realistic action/playing scenes ever.

I was 6 yrs old. I totally remember what a HUGE deal it was. Seeing the scenes from the game and highlihts still gets me choked up to this day. A really important moment for the US. This was still when we sent amateur players (college) to play in the Olympics vs. Pro Players (ie Red army Team). It was soooo huge. If you watched a lot of the detroit red wings in the mid 90\'s when winning the cups many of the russians on that team were on the losing russian squad. It was interesting to get their perspectives on the game in interviews during those years.
