how was this? UM is probably the best band out there today, IMO.

2 sets acoustic. Very MTV unplugged type atmosphere. Cool show. Good crowd. Not familiar w/ their material enough to know song names.  Covers I recognzied included Fearless, The Dukes of Hazzard Theme, and Night Moves (Seger)

i knew it was going to be acoustic, which is cool, tho probably one set would have been enough. then plug in and rip it up. did they like talk in between the songs or anything, like mtv unplugged? they\'re a funny crew.

I went to last nights um show at toads.  It was two acoustic sets.  I had a hard time getting into it in the first set.  The 2nd set was better, but many people were bored and just talking to their friends and what not.  They played a lot of covers and anything with a jam was short lived and lack an over all flow. The thing that was flowing was the booze.  The guys were drinking up a storm.  It was the drummers birthday(Chris) and they were celebrating.  I really didn\'t mind the banter entertainment.  Also, these  guys don\'t have the improvisational jamming skills that the breakfast or disco biscuits instinctual possess.
I would not say the best band, but the best or most talented group of musicians.  Their last album "mantis" is one of the best albums I have heard in along time.  well written, well produced all the way around.  The studio album was so good that the show was a disappointment and my expectations were too high.  I will see these guys again next rime around and hopefully the electric set has more of what I am looking for.

I have yet to hear Mantis and never caught Umphrey\'s live.  I just know the vocals on the first couple albums are really painful for me.  Almost went to their SF Halloween show last year but backed out because I did not think a $15 ticketing fee was fair on top of a $26 ticket.

I was able to get a setlist from Bayliss as they walked off the stage... I guess that was thanks enough for letting him use my lighter to crack one of his beers... The projected setlist was defintely different than this.  If I get time I\'ll post what the projected list was too. But for now heres what was played:

Set I: Resolution > Passing, Water > Sweetness > Fearless, FF, Made to Measure, Hajimemashite

Set II: Great American > Can\'t Find My Way Home > Great American, Nemo, Never Cease to Amaze, Let \'Em In, August, End of the Road, new song*, Good Ol\' Boys, drum solo > Partyin\' Peeps$

E: Night Moves, Ride On Pony**

Notes:acoustic show
* Kris left the stage; the band improvised a song about Kris with Robbie Williams on drums
$ with Napolean Dynamite theme tease
** first time played, original
Where to next?
