i didn\'t even think twice about trying to hold in my post-hangar flatulence after i caught whiffs of some of the people in that place.. the smell of my vile digested wing gas was infinitely better than the stench of those unkempt underarms.

Northampton has a great crowd everytime.

Real energetic and they want there Breakfast. After the house sound guy turned on the lights and music, the one more song chant began. Didn\'t look like it was going to happen, then WHAM!, the people were not leaving.

We can play Funky Bills or Taboot and they play Simpleton.

It was funny to hear them debate FBCC and Taboot on stage and then come out of no where and play Simpleton, good work on the collective consciousness to get them to play Simpleton, good ending for a fun evening.

I firmly believe Buquebus is less powerful broken up but last night was hands down the best broken up Buquebus I have heard. The outro jam was intense. Too bad no one was picking up the queue to yell Buquebus at one part would have made the fan/band connection insane.

nah, pretty much the same.. i\'d imagine that adrian\'s message couldn\'t get to tim without ron relaying it, so yours is part 1, and mine is part 2. adrian and i were probably both hollering simpleton at the same time. :)

lacking in the heady jams. The flow was busted. Splitting up these songs is just not that cool, right when I start to get into the music it switches up. New Beginning = meh.

Just wasn\'t feelin the vibe last night. What a wierd night. Making me wonder about how much I\'m really still into this band..

:wah: Lacking in heady jams? Most of the show was pretty heavy and fast. Gravity & Eschers were hetty. Scheme part 2 really f\'n hetty I agree though i probably would have rather heard buquebus unbroken. It still raged though. my 2 cent. i hope you wont decide you don\'t dig the band that much anymore.

That\'s what I mean. I love some music thats heavy and fast but IMO this just ain\'t PBs forte.

A nice well developed Tribal Funk jam or an emotional Mooboo or a spaced out SeeTheLight .. thats what Breakfast does best. Or a Puppetry that rages out but only in the last few minutes.

Any headiness that was about to occur in Gravity, etc was wiped out with the introduction of guitar-and-keys playing the same notes, hammer-ons-and-offs back and forth mostly. To me there\'s no melody in this, and it doesn\'t sound cool. Every time Tim does this I can\'t help but think how frickin\' good he could be playing if he forgot about those keys and just played some sweet guitar. I firmly believe now that Breakfast needs a keyboard player.

I thought it was strange when Tim called the band the "whatever experiment" or something like that last night after introducing Adrian and Ron.

Scheme Pt 2 was heady, definitely. And Surreal was absolutely nailed, best I\'ve seen.

Yet this trend from tasteful / heady / trippy to ----> rockin\' / fingertappin\' / partymusik is definitely one reason I haven\'t been making much effort to get to shows outside my hometown lately. I used to be totally mesmerized by their music, the tasteful development of the songs, the ambiance. Lately it seems like they just wanna put on ragin\' rock shows.

That\'s cool but not my cup of shroomy tea.

sorry I don\'t mean to be negative, I tend to ramble on about stuff and honestly I\'m so glad to read these great reviews of this show most of you put up here.

pretty weak first set...you know it\'s a weak set when the best thing about it is the fact that they didn\'t sing the fresh cut lyrics

i didn\'t think scheme was the best 2nd set opener, as the first set was pretty endothermic, but it was played well...even if it did segue into new beginning.  buquebus>scheme>buquebus was clearly the highlight of the night, but simpleton encore was a close second.  tunage was pretty funky

i\'d give it a 4/10 (5=average)

he called himself "the atrocious whatever experiment" (see here (http://www.thebreakfast.info/forum/showthread.php?p=129400&highlight=atrocious+keyboard+experiment#post129400)).

i don\'t think i\'d be able to identify a "heady breakfast jam" if i heard one..

i miss jordan sometimes during parts of a show, but as of last night i really think tim has come a looong way in playing the keys.  the flow back and forth btwn keys and axe is seemless to me.

also, before last night i was for inducting a new keys player, but i don\'t think anyone else could ever truely be a member of the breakfast besides tim adrian ron and jordan.  an i also question whether i would even want to see jordan back full time.  def wanna see him do sit ins and maybe full shows, but i really like what the trio is doing regardless of moments in shows that seem a little flat.

Seriously some real adjectives would be helpful.

Funny... it was always the Breakfast\'s rock appeal that I thought made them so different from other jam bands. If I wanted spaced out, mellow "heady trippy" jamming, there are about 10 million other bands to look to.

I think my assessment (ie: bitching and moaning) was lengthy enough.

And there are 100 million other rock bands to look to if that\'s what you want. But IMO when it comes to the spaced out heady atmospheric stuff, nobody could ever beat PB / The Breakfast.

And when it comes to diverse styles, going from rock to jam to funk to jazz to ambiance and back again they couldn\'t be beat. Lately it seems many of their talents are being sacrificed for the, IMO misguided, notion of putting on a straight rock show

I suspect if they are serious about this, they may pick up some new fans, but they are also going to lose some old heads. I know in Northampton area the band took a big hit in \'04 when they decided no longer to be "psychedelic"...

see there are a lot of people that know what headiness is and have no problem recognizing it ;)

imo, I think you need to realize that the band is growing & changing constantly... they\'re never going to be what they "once were" --- they experiment with new styles & changes every time they play.  You either need to recognize the "headiness" of the band itself & grow/change along with it, or be left in the dust.

Thing is w/ Jordan they had a signature sound that was always a constant. Within that they played around w/ different genres of music. It was an extra layer of complexity that is lost w/ this band now.

It\'s sad really.

If The Breakfast are going to experiment w/ new styles and changes everytime they play they will be left in the dustbin of stellar bands that never went anywhere.

W/O the signature sound which they had developed w/ Jordan they will continue to struggle gaining new fans until they develop their "new" sound. Even then the "new" sound which seems to be overwhelming Rock may not be what makes this band successful. Then what?

just curious, Leith, how do u feel...actually, i dont care how u feel really, but how do you praise the band

Quote from: leith;123390
Flower Punk was one of the most psychedelic journeys I have ever taken w/ any band. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I told Tim @ setbreak that it was as good as anything I had ever heard from the 4 piece.
Rufus would have a hand in my reconversion. This version was loong and really showcased Tim\'s growing ability to screw w/ minds via synths.

Mayfly  Wow OK fine prove your fuckin\' point Tim. Mayfly has always been a huge favorite for me due to Jordan. This version did not lose anything and the Ahoy ending is even better now! Man this song went deep into trancey psychedelia and had me dancing my ass off.
Overall a much better show than L.A. This is the band I would travel for. Still some things I don\'t really "get"yet but shit that will come in time. Discussing the music and changes w/ Tim and Adrian really helped me grasp more of what they are going for and we all agreed that once material starts to surface written by the 3 for the 3, Well all bets are off !!!!!!!!!!!!!
and then go into your rants about how they are backpedaling?
Quote from: leith;129396
To you they are a better band, to me they are less than they can be and it saddens me.
I mean, kissing their ass and praising them and smokin your cali heady pot with them is all good when their in your neck of the woods but it doesnt make them forget how unsupportive you sound when u say shit like \'atrocious keyboard experiment\' and obviously they appreciate your support and desire to see them succeed, but your commentary (obviously with Tims last comment) weighs more than dancin around front row like their #1 fan and kissing their ass at set breaks. Take em or leave it man, trust me, Im also jealous how good and talented they are too, and expect a lot out of them, yet I think they do a damn good motha fuckin job at bringing it each night they play so..LETS GO KNITTING FACTORY!!!!! AHOY!!!

Well I do so being a human being that can love what the band does but not accept it wholeheartedly and w/ blinders on.
I support the 3 guys in the band because this is what they choose to do, are very good @ it and I like to think I am supporting friends and not just guys I know in a band. Does not mean I have to like everything they try.

As for that Flower Punk it was one song that was amazing and the rest of the show was stellar as well.
The night before not so much. In my experience w/ the 4 piece that never happened I was NEVER disappointed.

I like alot of what they do as a trio just not as much as I used to. I want to hear new stuff written by/for the trio but I still have not.
I have told Tim and Adrian how I feel about the 3 piece vs 4 piece and from their reaction I figured they could care less. Which makes total sense, who the fuck am i?

So if Tim\'s comment was influenced by me I would find that highly amusing.

I have never discounted the band\'s ability to blow minds but do feel they were on the right track and now starting over this far in the game is not the best thing to do. I feel the music they created w/ the four piece was more complex, interesting and danceable than the Power Trio Rock show they have going on now.

I may feel completely different once new material begins to surface and I may not. Time will tell. The 3 are talented enough for me to keep an ear out for sure though.

I agree that the 1st set was a little, hmmm, rusty sounding should I say. I feel like every Iron Horse show comes with a little mini soundcheck during the 1st set. Sounded like headphones cutting in and out IMO.

I did learn that Ellis-D has some fans of his own, must have been 5-10 people coming up to Ellis-D and engaging him in discussion during the show. His light show is definitely getting better.

The show time wise was very good. I am glad they cut Taboo out of the 1st set. They almost played too long which I feel would have had people heading to the doors. Played just enough to have the people wanting more and everyone stayed.

There were a lot of younger kids, i.e. High School aged seniors and such floating around.

Lots of hotties in the front row which had the band smiling ear to ear as the hotties danced sexily in the fron couple of rows. I swear I saw Tim do the cobra to a hottie who had a twinkle in hear eye.

leith, jordan left the band months ago.
please, for the love of god shut up about it now.
dudes gone
bands still rollin
stronger than ever too.
see yaal tonite in nyc

I get it Freddie. The only reason I even posted is Robyn\'s naive and uninformed post that the band experiments w/ new styles and changes everytime they play.

If they really did do that this band would not be around any more. They do experiment but it\'s the same style of music every show in your face rock. They are trying to explore a new overall sound which they have not nailed yet this may be what Robyn was getting at.

My point was merely that in exploring the new sound they may have a hard time gaining new fans and the change still may not result in getting them any further than w/ Jordan.

As for the band being stronger than ever, depends on what you mean.
If you mean they rock out harder than ever. Yes.
If you mean stronger as in they are tighter OK maybe in some\'s opinion.
If you mean they have a more dynamic sound. Nope.
If you mean that they have a bigger fanbase than ever. Nope.
If you mean their national visibility is where it was w/ Jordan in the band. Nope.
Just what did you mean?

It\'s really no surprise to me how bent a lot of Breakfast fans get when you say anything about the band that isn\'t glowing praise...

As long as you don\'t cross that line and say "best show ever!" ... God forbid.

You win: My opinion is meaningless, yours is truth. I know nothing about music and the scene, you obviously have your finger on the pulse. And I have deep psychological problems that prevent me from thinking Thursday night\'s show was one of the best ever. I was probably dropped on my head as a child and subsequently abused for crying about it. No other explanation really. And now I suffer from a personality disorder that makes me think "headiness" will be the next revolutionary economic indicator after the world markets crash. A crash which will inevitably be brought about by me going to a few less Breakfast shows..

I wouldn\'t get down on people who don\'t know/use the word heady, there are a lot of people who look at you when you use that word. Try to use another word that the dolts know and then you don\'t have to worry about your opinion coming into question.

Personally, all of you losers suck and I am great. That being said:
Typical out of context bullshit. Lets close this thread, ASAP.

:fucktard: Seems like anyone who disagrees with your opinion is wrong or "uninformed" ........

All I\'m saying is try to be open minded instead of being an ignorant fool that wants the Breakfast to stay in some sort of time capsule & not change.  It might not always be "right" in your mind, but that\'s what is so great about this band, imo.  Maybe if you had the chance to see them play live, your opinion would be different.

Ok, [/rant] - I\'m gonna go get ready for another SICK show at the Knit :kissass:

Nice now I am a fucktard because I said you were uniformed. I even gave you benefit of the doubt and said maybe you were getting at the development of their new sound.

I am an ignorant fool just because I think the band was better w/ keys. OK whatever.

So I can\'t like and support the band w/o adoring everything they play?

Wow! Didn\'t know sorry.

Seeing them live convinced me that the band is more hit or miss than ever. Yeah it was 2 shows but they were back to back and drastically different in terms of hettiness and what I like from the band.

I do not bother to burn shows of the trio because they have yet to play one worth it so far to me. I do have a couple discs I put together w/ the stuff I really like.

I have a few DVD\'s which get me more into the band but that is just because I like to watch the pretty lights.

just an aside ... / fyi / to who it may interest ... I was chillin with some ct festival friends while getting down to fuzz and Rolla saturday nite and they were raving about this show.  they had only seen the breakfast THREE times prior, ALL at festivals, so this was their 1st effort at seeing the band deliberately / alone, and they brought their 16yo son for his 1st show ever.  they all said they had a blast, and LOVE this band.
plus they\'re south of here so this was a drive esp for a weekday.
festivals, and opening acts for bigger / localler bands, is where it\'s at for attracting new fanbase.

i agree completely... the iron horse show pretty much solidified that conclusion for me. going from the stone church to mill street to the iron horse was like a rollercoaster as far as energy and style of the shows.

i suppose the show style just has less character now then it did before... which is completely understandable as they are essentially a new band.... but i\'m finding it is not really analagous with what i\'m looking for from a band that i have traveled far to see... i suppose this new power trio will most certainly attract a new type of fan...

on the bright side, the Iron Horse showed marked the first time that A New Beginning didn\'t drive me to the bathroom with my ears covered! glad they nailed the vocals!

Four Piece vs. Trio debate aside,

Tim\'s keyboard work on The Grand Scheme of Things was inspired and by far his best work to date, thus taking a lot of the atrociousness away from "the atrocious keyboard experiment"
