Ok, heres one for all you musicians. during the jam at the end of psygn, tim is using the fifth (dominant) mode of the harmonic minor scale. what is the name for this? although sometimes it sounds like he\'s using a natural 7th in there which would lead me to just call it an altered major scale (flat 2nd). but my real question is \'what is the name of the 5th mode of the harmonic minor?\'
edit: actually if anyone knows the names of all the modes of the harmonic minor scale, that would be cool. i use them but i dont know the names...
-
look at the big brain on Cobb, That\'s right the metric system.
-
nah dude, not a big brain at all... i learned this shit once, and now for the life of me i cant remember any of the names...
-
All I know was the segue into Drunk Monk from this was THE SHIT!
-
cobb, ive been playing music for almost 2 years now.. was real excited when i figured out modes through regular major/minor scales.. it just occurred to me that harmonic minors have modes too.. shit i guess it just occurred to me that any scale has its own set of modes. umm, yeah, you can call me corky.... but hell yeah! im gonna go play.
building this scale on paper its really similar to Phrygian, but obviously with that harmonic leap from 2 to 3. ill go with Harmonic Phrygian, thats the best i can do.
-
dominant phrygian. just got off the phone with a trusted source. pretty darn close, gord. also called the "spanish gypsy" by many.
-
From what i downloaded, this song RULES! much better than good things, in my good-for-nothing opinion.
-
Mixolydian. Always Mixolydian.
-
nah man mixolydian is the 5th mode of the major scale.
-
it\'s all just bells and whistles to me GUY.
-
oh... well... yeah!
-
Mixolydian. Always Mixolydian.
i always call it Mix-Go-lydian. 1. b/c its on the G of Ionian C (helped me remember for my first test) 2. b/c when i first heard it i loved it, and told my teacher i had to Go home immediately and play. later realized how much it\'s used, way more than ionian, especially with the Dead.
im also a huge fan of dorian. one of my first grooves on the piano was in dorian and it\'s still requested for jams with my buddies. a teacher told me once that Santana lives on dorian.
-
dorian and mixo are very jer.

@ PSYGN
Having just a normal day
I notice strange things in regular ways
I think that I’ve just seen a psygn
Posed with a problem as of late
I have no answers but there is fate
Sending the chills out from my spine – sublime
Funny how they appear to me
Blending in natural reality
Conversations, smells, and things we see
Are cosmic triggers for the answer key
Psygns can you help me death has arrived
Psygns where are you a life’s on the line
Psygns can you hear me now is the time – assign
Co-incidence or synchronicity
Whatever the source you can’t disagree
You’ve made a choice based on a psygn
Love free thinking societies
No matter how different we can all agree
It does us no good to not be alive – survive
All these choices nothing’s black and white
How will I know that it’s right?
Déjà vu, a dream I had last night
An all too familiar beautiful sight
Psygns disguised between the lines
Psygns all around please help me design
A plan that is fair and future aligns – divine
Break it down, simplify
Peace is what I signify
Make a stance with spirit high
Kill with kindness, nullify
Drawing close the moments near
I made my choice I have no fear
I paid attention to the Psygns
Respect life with thoughtful ease
Purity like a child sees is the
Path to the truth, the power to shine
My Psygn
