So...what does everyone think?!
I have listened to it 4 or 5 times now and I am really diggin it.
The first 5 minutes are insane. Love the way it starts so balls to the walls. I can think of a lot of tunes that will for NASTY seques with this part in and out of.
I like like the break down after the gnarly part too,. Very melodich and soft on the ears.
Then the it gets real bluesy when the lyrics come in. I wasn\'t sure how i felt about this at first but I deffinitly dig it.
THe jame after the lyrics reminds me ALOT of a phish jam the way it progresses (char zero, theme). I could see this section generating some INSANE over the top bild ups.
cant wait to hear it live.
what do you guys think?
-
honestly, and this may be considered blasphemous, i think it needs another section to tie in the prog-y stuff with the swing blues stuff. the blues section just doesn\'t seemed earned, to me. i like the two parts a lot, i just think they need to be tied together a little stronger.
not dissing the tune, just trying to make it even more epic! :)
-
The more they play the song the better it will get. I personally think it is one of their better tunes.
I also, honestly believe, just making an assumption from Psygn and Good Things, that the next couple of years ahead are the best ones. Some of the best tunes they will have, have yet to be written/played.

i don\'t doubt that at all! :)

Totally agree.

The bluesy section is the actual "awakening", if I understood Tim last night in our conversation about the song. The beginning is meant to signify the struggle within Buquebus to "break" free from Mooboo\'s Voodoo. That is why it is such a violent shift. I think also that Spaceman has it right, it will get smoother as they streamline that bitch.
p.s. "Psygn" is part of the Buquebus legend.
-
its deffinitly a strange transfer no doubt about that. First listen I was like \'woa where in the hell did that come from."

The bluesy section is the actual "awakening"
thats exactly what i was going to say. adding another section for a smoother transition would completely defeat the purpose of the song. its needs the abrupt change because its part of the story.
-
^ ditto. i like the song a lot but the switch into the blues is something that will need to become smoother over time. hearing it on saturday (first time) i turned to someone next to me when they went into the bluesy jam and asked if it was still ep3/what\'s this? wasn\'t too sure about it.

An abrupt change does not have to be so disconcerting. I think it can use some smoothing out and a guitar player as good as Tim can do it.

its definitely going to get tighter, but the song\'s structure is the way it needs to be.

And I have no problem with that.

I like it. i can\'t wait for them to be comfortable with it.
-
all in good time
the more they play it, the more confidence they will play it with.
soon they will know each others movement like they know how to breathe

I\'d say it sounds something like that

ok, after listening to this a bazillion more times, i\'ve decided this....
i don\'t think it needs another section, but i do think that ronnie needs to emphasize the parts towards the begining of the song where he\'s actually playing part of the bluesy part\'s bassline (that\'ll help tie it in when the full section appears).
i also think that the whole band needs to *SLAM* the switch even harder. especially if its the breaking free from the spell, then i think rather than smoother, just pound that change full on balls out, as well as build the tension just before it even more (maybe tim bends a screaming note at the end of that last ascending run?).
and if that is buquebus struggling his was free of the spell, then maybe some darker, more dissonant moments in the opening section to contrast with some of the lighter ascending runs in the opening section. that\'ll also help provide more contrast to the swing blues section that does feel oh-so-good.
i doubt i\'d put so much time/thought into this if it were a regular breakfast tune, but its an episode, after all!!! and certainly, the more i listen to it, the more i like it and the more it makes sense to my ears. :)

dank. you can quote me on that.

@ EPISODE 3 (AWAKENING)
Damn - Damn that mojo mama x 2
She had my soul chained up and I
Could\'ve been 6 feet under
I asked Myself, Is there hope - Hope for a lost soul x 2
If I try hard enough I
Will Surpass this girl, for sure
So I ran - Ran like the wind that blows x 2
I\'m a revolution lover and she
Couldn\'t take my glow
I am free - from the evil mojo mistress x 2
Now a new life waits for me and I\'m
Going to do my best
Buquebus said he\'s going to do his best

An overdue and refreshing departure from every song that has been in heavy rotation as of late, but still a good set list.Eppy 3 might be the sickest song this band has ever produced. You can close your eyes, hang on every note, and it will take you on a magical journey loaded with emotion and twists and turns. Matt OWNED the blues breakdown too.
:that:
Glad to see The Awakening getting some much deserved love on this board as of late. This song is epic and has been from the very begining. I remember hearing (on disc) Tim debut it acoustically and it completely blew me away. I mean, just listen to the Ep 3 from the Star Wars Freakout, nasty. That was what, 2 years ago. It\'s obviosly only improved since back then. The rarity of the song gives it the bust-out-factor (much like scheme), and the song just rips. The different sections all just have so much emotion in them. Tim really did a good job conveying Buquebus\' inner struggle. Episodes 1, 2, & 3 are all top-of-the-heap, cream-of-the-crop, pick-of-the-pack. Everyone knows EP 1 & 2 are ser, glad people are coming around to Ep 3 ! (Klout I know you\'ve been down with Ep 3 from the begining, your post just sparked this rant)
-
does anyone know the last time ep\'s 1+2+3 were played in succession at a show?
-
probably the toads show where mooboo\'s was first brought back with the trio.
