Title: Toad\'s Final Push
Post by: Spacey on May 26, 2006, 12:26:06 pm
We are exactly 23 days to the 1000th Show celebration at Toad\'s Place. There are a few shows coming up in the area over the next few weeks that we need a hand to help flyer and promote.

If you are going to any shows this weekend or over the next 3 weeks and want to help, let me know and I will get you material ASAP.

Monday night Mike Gordon and Ramble Dove will be at Toad\'s Place and I believe it is essential to get down there will some material. If anyone if going or planning on going it would be nice to get some passes and give them out down there.

Badfish is again at Toad\'s on June 3rd. If you are not going to the Stone Church and will be in town, we can really use the promotion there.

That same weekend of Toad\'s Place is the Magic Hat City Festival in Danbury. Those who will be checking out this show, this would really be a great opportunity.

The Machine at Toad\'s Place on Saturday the 10th. Also is a good show to hit up.

Here is a link to all shows in the CT area over the next couple of weeks. CT Shows to Promote (http://www.jambase.com/search.asp?city=New%20Haven&stateID=7&fromdate=05%2F26%2F2006&todate=06%2F17%2F2006&beyondcity=1&pagenum=0)

I have some posters I need to get up. If anyone has a good place that can use one or know of a good place to hang one, let\'s get one up.

There are only a few weeks before this show and who knows what\'ll happen then.

Thanks.

I\'m assuming most of us if not all of us will be at the Stone Church. However, some reduced passes to hand out at the Festival would go a long way. Let me know.

Hey Spacey!  I just made a call to Toad\'s print out some more of those passes.  I showed Toad\'s owner one of your posters to show as a sample of what\'s been done to promote this.  I\'m gonna do my best to be @ Toad\'s for Gordon on Monday.  I might be working the Badfish show which actually hurts my ability to promote.

If anyone else needs reduced admission passes let me know ASAP

Well, this Toad\'s show is really important. Any number below 500 is going to be a failure as far as attendance. A milestone in the career of the band at the original hometown venue. People who normally just go to Toad\'s shows for the band are the people we need to pull out and along with those who are not fortunate enough to get to many of the 21+ shows, i.e. High Schoolers and those in the final years before hitting 21.

What did Toad\'s say about this promotion?

We really can\'t stress that enough.  For those of you who haven\'t been before- 250 and you can hear the crickets.  Ideally everyone going would bring 1 friend who\'s never seen the band before.

As for Toad\'s reaction to the promotion- Toad\'s management is extremely skeptical of my interest in this show.  (What\'s in this for you Brian?)
When I worked there full time they used give us passes for random shows and send us down town to pass them out on the street.  I would deposit them in the nearest trash can, and go to Richters for a beer.
Apples and Oranges, but they don\'t see that.

It would be of great help. The festival looks really good, its just that the Birthday b\'fast show is too much to miss.

I do expect the lights to be the best ever at this show. According to Ellis-D, he has many combinations programmed on the system just for the Breakfast and has yet to use them in any other show. Just another reason to come to the show!

Peaches- I\'ll have a few reduced admission passes for you tonight, but not enough to leave at music stores.
It\'s been like pulling teeth getting Toad\'s to print more.

Very glad to hear the mailers looked good!  Maybe I shouldn\'t be so hard on the production office... Nah they\'re still a bunch of slackers.

Right now I\'ll still put the over/under on attendance @ 350.  We need a late push.

:sigh: :thumbsdow I was actually hoping to get a HUGE bunch more. I have been passing out copies of the sampler and recent shows, all with tickets in them. I\'ve left a bunch of tickets at every package store, bar, convenience store, etc. along my travels since getting that huge stack from you at Richter\'s. :sigh: Toad\'s just doesn\'t get it....what does it cost them, about 1/100 of a penny to print out a fuckin\' ticket?!?!?!?! :hscratch: :nope:
Title: Toad\'s Final Push
Post by: Spacey on May 31, 2006, 12:13:21 pm
I have some reduced admission tickets left. I also have hand bills and some posters. I had talked to Tim and he agreed that Toad\'s has not printed up enough of these. We got rid of maybe 200 or so at the Gordon show. Hopefully we can get rid of 700-1,000 this weekend between Toad\'s Badfish show and the Magic Hat Festival in Danbury.

Anything under 500 people for Saturday June 17th is a complete failure. 500 is essential, bottom line. If we need to advertise the show having "free sex for everyone" then we must do so.

Any ideas?

why hasn\'t anyone tapped the local college radio scene yet. get a phone call into a couple of these shows, they have a Moe show a Grateful Dead show and Jam show, these shows should be playing and promoting the Breakfast. whose on this.... guaranteed to bring in a bunch more heads and for the most part there free publicity

Good idea

To explain the difficulties w/ Toads:
This is just one of many shows there.  Reality is, it\'s a bigger deal to us than to them (though I guess I\'m "us" on both sides of this huh?).  The owner has ALOT on his plate and can\'t see to eveything personally.
Which brings us to the buffoons in production.  They are under minimal supervision, and don\'t give a rat\'s ass if anyone comes to this show. They get paid the same either way.
**the people working in production have nothing to do with the employees you see when the club is open!  they hide in an office all day! please don\'t take out your frustration on my fellow bartenders and security!**
As andecdotal evidence: One of them actually threw Mike Gordon\'s check in the shedder before Monday\'s show.  The owner needs to sign the check, and was off that day, so we had to send a barback to his house for the signature during the show.

cosmoechuck, there was no real way for me to get them to you, although for the effort I want to extend my gratitude to you. hope to see you next Friday?

well, the final two weeks are apon us. there has been a lot of promotion effort put in by the .info grassroots section. I\'m sure the effort will be rewarded on this Saturday night. The more the merrier and the better the energy will be.

I personally have heard much whisper/talk about this show from many unlikely  people. Some of them hover around 18 and younger. The word is out there. Also, Kathleen Cei from the New Haven Advocate has inquired about the show through myspace. That is a terrific place to be in. Hopefully more newpapers articles will follow.

I find it facinating its the original line-up playing their 1000th show, hopefully others too.

If anyone if hitting up any shows these last two weeks and need some tickets or posters, let me know, I have a couple extra left that I printed up.

I am confident in our ability to bring in 500 peeps on this Saturday evening. These last couple of weeks are imperative to our success. We need to hit every show possible, leave flyers or tickets whereever we go and hang another poster or two in the area. Everyday is an opportunity not to be missed.

PLEASE DO NOT PRINT YOUR OWN PASSES!
If you do, and the club finds out it would be real trouble for the band.  (and over a stupid $2 discount on admission).  We need to help the band, not risk getting their asses in a sling with their largest local venue.

Any other type of flier you print up is cool- 100% upside no risk for anyone.

Toad\'s is not sick of us.  The intial problem was underpaid lazy employees not wanting to do their job.  I went up the ladder to get more passes, and now management is thinking \'hmmm, if there is so much interest in this show, let them pay full price\'.  Hey, it\'s a business.
