\'poorly attended\' would be an understatement.. not sure what the \'official\' numbers were, but there were 3 of us counting people during the 4th song of each set, and there were never over 100 (95 actually) people there.

that said, they sure as shit didn\'t play like it. the show was really great.. i \'missed\' the entire first set, as i was out in the bar watching the giants game (heard it, but wasn\'t really paying attention), but the rest of the show was HOT. apparently set 2\'s uninverted STL on was stephengencs\' doing, with the exception of Gypsy Queen, which i don\'t think they\'ve done in years!

set 3 was pretty short, but brought some heavy hitters. really really good show that not a lot of people saw. about 3 hours of music all together..

The trek through the snow was worth it once the band hit the stage. As I do feel sorry about the attendance, you would never know it by the way the band played. It was like it was a full house. I heard some rumors when I arrived about a few breakouts, and boy was I surprised when in the first set, Hot For Teacher was played. I immediately wanted to call DerickW to let him know about his poor choice of not going but I waited till setbreak to break the news to him.

It was all about the 2nd set for me. It was great to get a new tune last night. Honeybutter was alright, not so sure how it will end up but it has great potential if I remember last night (which was alcohol free for myself).
Quote from: The Breakfast
See The Light > Hard Luck Harry > Slow Merge > Hard Luck Harry > HDX > Hard Luck Harry > See The Light > Gypsy Queen
If I have to thank Stephengencs for this, consider this my gratitude. See The Light uninverted was the highlight as was the Hard Luck Harry, it was nice to get HDX and I had no idea they played Gypsy Queen.

The 3rd set was short and sweet. TFA to open it into my favorite song, Buquebus. Buquebus was good. Will have to hear it on disc before I make my conclusion about this one (I also recieved a copy of the Boston show from Jason-A, Thank You, which I will be listening to at some point today).

All in all, I am glad I made the drive. Even though the drive up was shitty. I will use this word this once as the situation warrents it. All those who made it last night are true fucking SERHEADS. Here is why. I hardly knew anyone there. Most of the people who came were from out of state. The ride homw was smooth and clear.

I\'m glad 2006 is here. I love this entire b\'fast family. I hope 2006 brings you all that you want.

Peace & Love

I can\'t believe I forgot to mention this earlier but I will do it now.

HUGE Props to Audiofile and Ellis-D for their contributions to the advancement of this band over the last few months. Last night I realized how important both are to contributing to the success of this band. As poorly sounding of a venue as the Webster is, I believe Audiofile did an excellent job of making the band sound terrific. Ellis-D is lethal with lights! He truely made me feel like I was watching a light-show for a mega-million $$$ tour.

Thanks again for such a special evening.

So is that Guiness you spilt.

Ahh, such a sad, sad, sad day, when Mr. Guiness himself spills one for his homies.

On a side note, did anyone else think the Webster smelt last night? I understand it was NYE and there were plenty of twisted people but it was a cross between the smell of feet, a hockey glove after a season, human waste, puke and spilt guiness.

Am i the only one who thinks that after the first part of frankly po zest they went back into a fairy jam? i thought honeybutter was sick, prob my fav of the three new tunes i have recently seen debuted(i.e. psygn, good things.....still haven\'t seen an Ep. 3).  There is some nice breakdowns in honeybutter of just drums/guitar or keys/drums which i think gives this song some real potential. I had no idea they played gypsy queen.  Third set was rockin\' almost thought they were gonna do a variation on my

i arrived to the \'tapers section\' to find a nice day-old pile of vomit all over the barricade/seat.. found out the hard way by accidentally sticking my hand in it.. covered it up with some paper towels, but i kept getting wiffs of it throughout the night and it was making me gag.

Happy New Year to everyone out there in .info land........

The show was light in the attendance department, but the band sure didnt play like it was......  I am sure that the weather had something to do about it.  I didnt realize the tix were going to be $27 that night, which makes it officially the most i have every paid to see the band. (the second most was the $25 "donation" for the show at the Town Hall show in Newtown a month or so ago.... Was NYE 05/06 worth the price of admission?  You bet your ass it was.....

The Hot for Teacher was definitely the first set highlight......

The See The Light > HLH > Merge > HLH > HDX > HLH > See The Light was a wich I handed to Adrian at the hotel in philly....both him and Ron seemed to have dug it.....  I am glad they convniced Tim that it was doable and ser...

HoneyButter....what else can I say, but I have been waiting for that one for some time now.....since I heard the early version of it at latenight after 7/1/05.....It was way better than I ever expected it to be.....I like it better that Ep. 3 at this point in time right now....

I thought that Tribal Funk was the highlight of the 3rd set and Adrian even said after the show that he thought it was the best TFA ever......

All in all it was a great night and it was great to hang out and party with the serest of serheads who made it out to the webster......

Here\'s to following this band to the next level in 2006 and beyond.....
Thanks to everyone in the Breakfast and B\'Fam for making NYE and the entire year of 2005 a special one I wont soon forget...

I need an explanation from the setlist master(s):  Why is Merge listed as \'Slow Merge\' on the setlists?  Why wouldn\'t Merge* be more appropriate?

*slow version

The song name is \'Merge\', not \'Slow Merge\'.

Wouldn\'t it be like spelling out \'Inverted See The Light\' directly in the setlist as opposed to it\'s current handling as \'See The Light*\'?

Per usual, the guys delivered a killer show despite the subpar attendance.  Kinda made me flash back a bit, for this is one of the qualities that helped PB win my devotion back in the day.  They used to play a lot of shows for 20 people or less, but they always brought their A-game to those shows, and I thought they were cool for that.  There were some great jams last night as mentioned, although I would have to agree that the highlight of the night was Auld Lang Syne.  The snow and the family-style gathering really created a cozy, tight-knit feeling at that moment.  Great afterparty, thanks to Dobs, Greg, Jed and Gabo for letting us tear up their house a bit.  See you in 2006!

So this means that the song is at least nicknamed "Slow Merge", if not officially Slow Merge?

I thought slow was in reference to the slower pace they have been playing the tune recently?

I dig having the two seperate names... I think it splits them apart providing more spunk, but it\'s obvious that they\'re the same tune at the same time.

not that random of a question...but a good one.....I would venture a guess that the 8/12/05 acoustic cafe show ending Son Of Simpleton......and the 5/27/05 Beardslee Castle show could possibly the last time played electric.....its been a while though Ekkatin has been known to lurk around the dark hallways and alleys of Timmy Tour......

Son Of Simpleton is a great 90-second zinger that requires very little committed space in a setlist.  I love that tune.  Why do they choose not to play it?

I am not sure why the chose to play or not play any particular tune.....i like to believe that they choose not to play son of simpleton because they are saving it and building anticipaton for the sickest simpleton set ever....maybe even on 1/21 at Daniel St.....

hmm.. al, you make a good point. what can i say about this? here\'s some points, though i don\'t know if they\'ll prove anything...

- See The Light has a definitive published version, Merge/Slow Merge does not.

- Slow Merge debuted just 4 months after Merge, and appeared as \'Slow Merge\' on official B\'fast setlists.

- The name \'Slow Merge\' also makes sense, not only because of the tempo of the song, but it is also a traffic term.

i dunno.. Slow Merge to me also sounds much better than Merge, Slow version. same way the notation on the 12/30 setlist sounds much better than \'Old/New Inverted Wake Up In A Coma\'..

Despite what sounds good and what\'s happened so far, it has to be listed as Merge.  If the only thing they did is slow it down 50%, it\'s not a different song.  If a song has the same lyrics, same changes, and same sections, it\'s the same song.  Inverted See The Light gets asterisked, and that\'s a much more drastic and fundamental change to the song than just slowing it down.  If STL doesn\'t get a new name when it\'s inverted, there\'s no way you can give Merge another name just for being slow.  Go back and listen to some 1999/2000 shows when they played everything at half the speed they do now.  What are you gonna do, rename those songs Slow Buquebus, Slow Superfly Phaddy Fat, and Slow No Glove No Love?  Can\'t do it.  The song is still Merge.  It can certainly be asterisked as "slow version" just like other songs get asterisked for inversions and incompletes, but there\'s no way it\'s a different song.

Am I the first person to point out that there\'s a slow Merge missing from the setlist?

Nice try wiseass.  Notice how the s in "slow" is lowercase.  In that sentence, slow is clearly a modifier describing how the song "Merge" was played, and is NOT part of the title of the song.  What do you want me to do, asterisk Merge in a sentence?  And who, praytell, was the one who posted the setlist with the missing song that I had to clean up after?

150% disagree. STL and iSTL are the same songs, with the same feel, played in a different order. just slowing it down?? Slow Merge can be labeled as an entirely different genre as Merge! Merge is clearly a fast, hard-hitting, rock song, while Slow Merge is FUNK.

moot. you\'re talking about evolution of songs here, where the topic is clearly different \'versions\'.

no one said it\'s a different song. it\'s one song with two different versions. and again, the song has never been published. by your logic, ALL merges should have asterisks, and be labeled either \'slow version\' or \'fast version\'.

 not sure what this has to do with the price of hookers in harlem, but uh.... i wasn\'t at the show, and igzy pointed it out first...

The slow version of merge might be funkier than the original, but to call it capital F-U-N-K is to completely discredit any funkiness in any other Breakfast original.  Fairy used to be a ballad, now it\'s a practically a metal tune, so how about we start calling that Metal Fairy as soon as Tim hits the overdrive pedal.

Evolution of songs happens through BOTH consious and unconscious choices by the band.  If you\'re going to start retitling different versions of songs, it doesn\'t matter how it happened.

You said it was a different song when you gave it a new title.  I never said all versions should be marked.  The slow version can be asterisked as "slow" and the original is just listed as Merge.  Just like STL gets asterisked for inversions but is just written as See The Light when it\'s played as the original.

The first post of the FFT thread, the one with the setlist in it, is posted under your handle.  You are the setlist guru.  You need to take responsibility for the accuracy of the setlist if the FFT thread is started under your handle.  If the FFT thread was started under someone else\'s handle, then they would be the one responsible for the accuracy of the setlist.  Whoever is on top of the FFT thread is claiming responsibility for the accuracy of the setlist.

that\'s cool. i\'ll start getting quadrouple verification of setlists before i post them, interviewing members of both the band and their fanbase before putting the final list together. once it\'s together, i\'ll hold off on posting it until i hear a copy of the show, and can verify the setlist for myself. after i do that, i\'ll have 6 of my friends also listen to the show and write down setlists, and i\'ll post the setlist on the one-year anniversary of the show.

There\'s nothing wrong with posting a setlist with an error or two.  I\'m sure the readers would rather read a 95-100% accurate setlist the same night than have to wait a few days to see anything.  If you had nothing to do with the song being missing from this setlist then great, it just looked you did cause your handle is on the setlist post.  I had to ask because you used my pointing out of the missing song to try to accuse me of using the title "Slow Merge" when in fact I did not.

i dunno, i used to have poor heart, slow poor heart and really fuckin slow poor heart listed on my hampton 95 j-card.

why can\'t a modifier be part of a song name? depending where i put the lyrical emphasis, i have songs that have multiple names. of course, i\'m the only one who knows that, but still...
